According to statistics from the Lao Cai Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, from December 21, 2023 to December 21, 2024, the traffic police force has recorded and handled over 1,700 cases of students violating the provisions of the Road Traffic Law.
As a result, the authorities temporarily detained 1,140 vehicles of all kinds; imposed administrative fines of more than VND1.2 billion; and sent notices to 738 cases of students violating traffic order and safety regulations to schools and localities.
Common violations include driving underage (868 cases), carrying more passengers than the prescribed number (20 cases), violating alcohol concentration (42 cases), speeding (9 cases), not wearing a helmet (660 cases), driving in the wrong direction (9 cases); not obeying the inspector's orders (16 cases), not having a driver's license (5 cases)...
Not only that, the traffic police also handled 515 cases of parents handing over vehicles to underage students to drive.
According to statistics, in 2024, Lao Cai province had 55 traffic accidents involving students. The accidents killed 11 people and injured 48 people (compared to the same period in 2023, there were 3 more cases, 3 fewer deaths, and 9 more injuries).
