Tien Giang - Many households in Tien Giang affected by the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project have not yet received resettlement land.

Many people affected by the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project in Tien Giang province said that although they have handed over clean land to the construction unit to implement the above project, the authorities have not yet handed over the resettlement land to them.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huu (residing in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) said that his family has handed over the site for the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project. However, up to now, the project is about to be completed but the resettlement area of the project has not been constructed. "The delay has made many people very upset. I request the authorities to urgently deploy the construction and hand over the resettlement land to the people," said Mr. Huu.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on February 25, the land for the implementation of the Rach Mieu 2 bridge resettlement area (in Giap Nuoc Hamlet, Phuoc Thanh Commune, My Tho City, Tien Giang Province) has not yet started construction.

According to the reporter's investigation, on March 26, 2024, the People's Committee of Tien Giang province issued Decision No. 522 approving the resettlement area under the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction investment project. This project is invested by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tien Giang province, with an implementation period from 2024 - 2025, with a total investment of more than 377.6 billion VND.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters over the phone on February 25, Mr. Tran Thanh Ba - Director of the Tien Giang Provincial Land Fund Development Center - said that the My Thuan Project Management Board has not yet handed over to the locality the remaining amount of more than 139 billion VND to implement the construction of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge resettlement area project.

This morning (February 25 - PV), the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tien Giang province sent an official dispatch to the My Thuan Project Management Board requesting this unit to allocate capital and hand over the remaining amount to the locality to carry out the construction of the Rach Mieu 2 bridge resettlement area, said Mr. Ba.

Mr. Ba also informed that the construction package for the Rach Mieu 2 bridge resettlement area is currently in the process of selecting a contractor, and the results are expected to be available next week.

On November 5, 2020, the Prime Minister issued a Decision approving the investment policy for the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces. The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project has a total length of about 17.5km, with a total investment of more than VND 5,175 billion. Due to the increase in the number of households affected by the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project compared to the original plan, the project was over budget.

On September 18, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision approving the adjustment of the project investment policy. According to the adjustment, the total length of the route is about 17.6km; the project implementation period is from 2021 to 2026; the total investment is 6,810.11 billion VND from public investment capital. Thus, after adjustment, the total investment of the project increased by more than 1,600 billion VND compared to the initial approval decision.
