According to Lao Dong reporters, the ancient villa at 65 Nguyen Thai Hoc street (Ba Dinh district) is gradually deteriorating over time.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc (the person who requested the name change, living in the villa at 65 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh district) said that for many years, the households here have had to live in a "half-crying, half-laughing" situation because they have not been upgraded or repaired.
Every time it rains, the walls of the ancient villa often peel off, which is very dangerous. Some households living on the top floor also have to find temporary reinforcement with corrugated iron sheets to prevent leakage because the roof of the villa is severely damaged.

According to local residents, villa No. 65 Nguyen Thai Hoc was built before 1954, and is a group 2 conservation area, so during use, they must ensure to keep the original architectural style on the outside.
The rapid deterioration of ancient villas is also typical on major streets such as Hai Ba Trung, Tang Bat Ho, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Thai Hoc...
Many people living in dilapidated ancient villas hope that the authorities will quickly assess the damage to come up with a plan for restoration and relocation according to the level so that people can work and live with peace of mind.

For this project, the Hanoi Department of Construction has proposed that the People's Committee of Ba Dinh District include the house at 65 Nguyen Thai Hoc in the list of projects that need to be surveyed and assessed for load-bearing safety to the Department of Construction for synthesis and reporting to the city.
Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Hanoi People's Committee, in the city, there are about 1,216 old villa projects built before 1954 (of which, there are 509 ancient houses and 1,167 architectural works), mainly concentrated in Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Tay Ho districts.
Notably, most of these old villas are intertwined between the State and the private sector, requiring the development of a system of mechanisms and policies to harmoniously and appropriately resolve the needs, aspirations and interests of relevant entities when some villas have now been deformed in terms of architectural form and structure due to arbitrary renovation and patchwork construction.
