Traders " abandon stalls" at Dong Da District Golden Land Market

Many traders were forced to close and stop doing business at Nga Tu So market (Dong Da district, Hanoi).

According to Lao Dong, although located in the center of Dong Da district (Hanoi), many traders in Nga Tu So market have had to close their kiosks and abandon their stalls in recent times.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh (character's name has been changed, a trader at Nga Tu So market) said that the market has been degraded for a long time but has not been renovated.

Many traders here have had to leave stalls to switch to other businesses, and the traders who stay here like her just want to sell all the used goods and then quit early.

"10 am but the market is deserted, no one passes by, almost only sellers. Some days we have to go home empty-handed, it is normal not to be able to do business" - Ms. Minh said.

Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Ha (living in Dong Da district, Hanoi) informed that many days after coming here, she saw the market was deserted, with only about 10 traders opening their stores. According to Ms. Ha, due to the habit of consuming and shopping online, she rarely comes here to shop even though the house is right next door.

Also according to Lao Dong reporter on February 15, while Nga Tu So market is seriously degraded, many traders have recently flooded onto the roads and sidewalks along Cau Moi street to do business. The area around Nga Tu So market has also become a place for trading goods such as Giap Nhat bridge, Nguyen Trai street, Giap Nhat street...

According to many people living here, because Nga Tu So market has seriously degraded, traders do not dare to sit in the market to do business, and people do not dare to go to the dilapidated market to buy things. Over time, traders are flocking to Cau Moi Street, Giap Nhat Street... to do business.

Referring to this content, the People's Committee of Dong Da District (Hanoi) previously said that Nga Tu So Market is a Grade 1 market that has seriously degraded, the District People's Committee has also included it in the investment and reconstruction plan for the period 2021-2025 and has been approved by the Hanoi People's Committee.

However, due to problems with the mechanism for using the budget to invest in construction for grade 1 and grade 2 markets, Dong Da District People's Committee has difficulty in investing in rebuilding Nga Tu So market.

Currently, the District Construction Investment Project Management Board has submitted Document No. 239/TTr-KTTD and Report No. 118/BC-KTTD to the District Policy Proposal Report Appraisal Council and the Planning and Finance Department to appraise the policy report for the Nga Tu So market construction project.

Dong Da District People's Committee plans to approve the feasibility study report in the second quarter of 2025, and approve the construction drawing design documents in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Therefore, strive to start construction of the market in the first quarter of 2026 and complete the project in 2028.
