Ho Chi Minh City requests to complete compensation, support, resettlement and hand over the entire site to the investor of the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro project before September 2, 2026.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document directing the implementation of compensation, support, and resettlement work to serve the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro project.

Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Chairmen of the People's Committees of wards and communes including Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong and Can Gio to mobilize all forces to urgently carry out land acquisition procedures, investigation, survey, measurement, inventory, legal determination of houses and land and develop compensation, support, and resettlement plans.

The city requests to complete the handover of the entire site to the investor before September 2, 2026 so that the project is eligible for construction.

At the same time, Party Secretaries of wards and communes with projects passing through are required to lead and direct the mobilization of the entire political system to participate in propaganda and mobilize people to agree with the investment policy as well as compensation, support, and resettlement policies, creating conditions to accelerate the progress of site handover.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in monitoring and urging the progress of compensation, support and resettlement work. In case difficulties and obstacles beyond their authority arise, the department must promptly advise and report to the City People's Committee for consideration and direction of resolution.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line is about 53.8 km long, starting from Ben Thanh station (September 23 Park) and ending at Can Gio Depot on a land area of about 39 hectares in Can Gio commune.

The route passes through Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My wards and Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio communes.

The project was grounded on December 19, 2025 under the BOO (build - own - operate) contract form, with a total investment of more than 102,000 billion VND arranged by the investor.

Specifically, compensation, support and resettlement work is implemented using the Ho Chi Minh City budget, with a total budget of about 9,834 billion VND.

The total affected land area is about 153.8 ha. There are about 510 affected cases, including 418 cases of partial clearance and 92 cases of full clearance. In addition, there are 17 organizations affected by land acquisition.

Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro is expected to be completed in 2028. When put into operation, this urban railway line will shorten the travel time from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio to about 13 minutes.

The project also contributes to forming a large-volume public transport axis, connecting the city center with Can Gio coastal city, creating motivation for socio-economic development in the Southern region of Ho Chi Minh City.
