HCMC prepares to reclaim land from more than 5,100 households to carry out 5 gateway expansion projects

Ho Chi Minh City reclaims land from more than 5,100 households to implement the Binh Tien bridge and road project and four projects to upgrade and expand National Highways 1, 13, 22 and the North - South axis road.

Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has just directed relevant departments, branches and localities to complete legal documents, appraise and approve compensation, support and resettlement plans for 5 projects before the end of 2025.

The projects are expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed before 2028, helping to reduce traffic congestion at gateways.

Binh Tien Bridge and Road

The Binh Tien bridge and road project (from Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Street) is 3.6 km long, with a total investment of nearly 6,300 billion VND. The route is built as a overpass, the road surface is 30 - 40 m wide for 4 - 6 lanes.

The project needs to reclaim land from 389 households. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Chairmen of the People's Committees of Binh Tien, Phu Dinh, Binh Dong wards and communes and Binh Hung communes to urgently review, complete legal documents, determine land prices, arrange resettlement housing funds and approve the overall and detailed compensation, support and resettlement plan in December 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Traffic Department to urgently complete the Feasibility Study Report and submit it to the Department of Construction for appraisal before October 10, 2025; the Department of Construction to complete the appraisal and submit it for approval before October 25, 2025.

Expanding National Highway 1

The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to the border of Long An province) is more than 9 km long, with a total investment of VND 16,285 billion, of which the cost of compensation and site clearance is more than VND 9,600 billion.

The project needs to reclaim land from 2,241 households, of which about 1,822 households have been cleared.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Chairmen of the People's Committees of Tan Tao, An Lac, Binh Dong, Tan Nhut, and Binh Chanh wards and communes to proactively implement compensation, support, and resettlement procedures immediately after the component compensation projects are approved.

Expanding National Highway 13

The project to expand National Highway 13 (from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge) is nearly 6 km long, with a total investment of VND 20,900 billion, of which more than VND 14,600 billion is for compensation and site clearance.

The project to reclaim land from 1,091 households, including 238 households with cleared land and 853 households partially affected.

National Highway 13 will be expanded to 60 m. On the route to build a 3.2 km long overpass (elevated road), 4 lanes wide, below is a parallel road on both sides, 3 lanes on each side.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Chairman of the Hiep Binh Ward People's Committee to preside over and coordinate with the Thu Duc Compensation and Site Clearance Board to review and propose additional resettlement land funds, and report to the Department of Construction before October 7, 2025.

Expanding National Highway 22

The National Highway 22 expansion project (from An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3) has been expanded to 10 lanes, with a total investment of more than VND 10,400 billion, of which the cost of compensation, support and resettlement is more than VND 6,234 billion.

The project needs to reclaim land from 1,362 households, of which 392 households must be cleared.

The Department of Finance is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to appraise and submit to competent authorities for approval the Feasibility Study Report for component projects on compensation and resettlement before October 7, 2025.

North - South Axis Road

The North-South axis road expansion project (Nguyen Huu Tho Street), from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, has a total investment of nearly VND9,900 billion. Of which, the cost of compensation, site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure is about 1,426 billion VND.

The project to reclaim land from 36 households, including 19 households in the Nguyen Van Linh intersection area and 17 households in the former Nha Be district.
