Ho Chi Minh City speeds up the land acquisition of more than 5,700 households to implement four projects to expand National Highway 1, National Highway 22, build Binh Tien bridge and road and renovate Van Thanh canal.

On November 16, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City said it was closely coordinating with localities and investors to speed up site clearance for the above projects.

The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Long An border (now Tay Ninh province) is over 9 km long, with a total capital of VND 16,285 billion.

The cost of compensation and site clearance alone has accounted for more than VND9,600 billion, divided into two component projects.

Component project 1 (formerly Tan Tao ward, An Lac - Binh Tan district) has a total capital of nearly 1,068 billion VND, affecting 101 households, of which 61 households must be cleared.

Component project 2 (formerly Tan Nhut and Binh Chanh communes - Binh Chanh district) has a total capital of nearly VND 8,543 billion, reclaiming land from about 2,140 households, of which 1,761 households must be completely relocated.

The project to expand National Highway 22 from An Suong intersection to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 will be expanded to 10 lanes, with a total capital of more than VND 10,400 billion.

Of which, compensation, support and resettlement costs account for more than VND 6,234 billion. The project needs to reclaim land from 1,362 households, including 392 households that have been cleared.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, the above projects have been notified by localities to reclaim land in October 2025.

Two other major projects are still waiting for approval of compensation, support and resettlement plans.

The 3.6 km long Binh Tien Bridge and Road project, connecting Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Street, has a total investment of nearly VND6,300 billion. The project is designed as a overpass, the road surface is 30 - 40 m wide, with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes.

Component project 1 - compensation, support, resettlement and infrastructure relocation of about VND 3,369 billion, reclaiming land from 389 households.

The Van Thanh canal renovation project in Thanh My Tay ward (formerly Binh Thanh district) has a total investment of more than VND 8,555 billion.

Of which, the total cost of compensation and resettlement is about 6,812 billion VND. In total, there are 1,077 cases of land acquisition, of which 749 households must be completely relocated.

To ensure site clearance progress, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assign the Party Committee and the People's Committees of wards and communes to establish a Steering Committee and a Commune-level Mobilization Team to directly implement compensation, support and resettlement.

The Steering Committee is responsible for: Mobilizing people to agree to hand over the site early; coordinating the issuance of decisions approving compensation plans in 2025; proactively handling problems in the compensation and resettlement process.

In addition, for projects passing through many wards, communes and localities, it is necessary to proactively coordinate to hire consultants to determine specific land prices to ensure consistency in the same project.
