Overview
Chelsea will be keen to end their slump and avoid the risk of Everton overtaking them in the Premier League table when the two sides face each other at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca's side, having dropped the lead and suffered a 1-2 defeat to Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League, are going through a three-match winless run in the Premier League. As a result, Chelsea have dropped to fifth in the table, just one point above Everton, who are seventh.
Although Chelsea drew a hard-fought draw with leaders Arsenal - in a match where Moises Caicedo was sent off a direct red card and is currently serving a three-match suspension - the Blues then lost to Leeds United and were held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth away from home.
In fact, Chelsea also had similar difficulties at this stage last season. Their longest winless streak under Enzo Maresca has lasted five consecutive games, from December 2024 to January 2025.
The Italian captain has proactively tried to turn the situation around by constantly disrupting the squad. He has made at least four changes to the starting lineup in each of his last four games, bringing the total number of changes to the squad this season to 46 - 11 times more than in the same period last season.
However, to improve the situation, Chelsea need to overcome a worrying trend. They are the team that has lost the most points at home in the Premier League this season when leading their opponents (8 points).
Meanwhile, Everton's recent away form shows that this team will not be an easy challenge for the west London representative. After overcoming difficulties caused by Idrissa Gueye receiving a red card for colliding with teammate Michael Keane to win 1-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford, David Moyes's team continued to beat Bournemouth with the same score, thereby having two consecutive away wins.
Everton's last win in more than two consecutive away games in the Premier League was a four-match run between October and December 2023. If they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and keep a clean sheet, it will be the first time Everton have won three consecutive away games without conceding a goal since December 2008.
Head-to-head record
Chelsea have a superior home record against Everton in the Premier League, having gone unbeaten in 30 consecutive matches at Stamford Bridge (won 17 matches). This is also the Blues' longest home unbeaten streak against an opponent in the history of the tournament.
The last two visits to Everton ended with a victory for Chelsea - a 6-0 victory in April 2024, before continuing to win 1-0 in April this year, thanks to Nicolas Jackson's only goal in the first half.
On the other hand, David Moyes has yet to win 20 away games against Chelsea in the Premier League (D7 L13). Only Liverpool have faced more away sides without a win (21).
However, Moyes has shown his ability to break the curse, when he ended Everton's 36-match winless streak away from home against a Premier League opponent with a 1-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road in November 2002 - a streak that has lasted since 2013.
In terms of the history of the confrontation, Everton have always had difficulty penetrating Chelsea's net.
Score prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Everton
The match between Chelsea and Everton takes place at 22:00 on December 13 (Vietnam time).
