A series of trillion-dong projects
On December 12, the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Finance said that since the beginning of the year, the province has attracted 172 projects with a total registered capital of more than 157,000 billion VND. In December 2025, many large projects are being invited by the province for bidding and auction to select investors.
In the eastern part of the province, Gia Lai is inviting bids and interest for 4 wind power projects including: Van Canh 1 Wind Power Plant (160 MW, 6,904 billion VND), Van Canh 2 (180 MW, over VND 7,771 billion), Vinh Thuan Wind Power Plant (143 MW, 4,679 billion VND) and Hon Trau Wind Power Plant - phase 1 (750 MW, over VND 48,000 billion).
There are 5 projects being auctioned by authorities, including: The warehouse project at the Logistics Logistics Service Center; Nam De Gi Residential Area; The commercial and service project for tourism in the land north of Vo Nguyen Giap Street...
In the western area, there are 6 projects implementing procedures to approve investors' selection policies, including: Tra Da Ecological Urban Area (53ha); Pleiku Commercial, Service and Housing Center Complex at 15-17 Truong Chinh; Dak Doa Golf Course (171.6ha); Ecological area and resort villas in Pleiku ward; Se San Hotel; Waste treatment plant in Gao commune. Three other projects are undergoing auction procedures, including the CK54 Urban Area in Pleiku Ward with an area of over 65 hectares. The above projects are expected to contribute to promoting growth and creating jobs for workers and businesses.
Re-evaluating new urban area projects
From November 16 to 20, 2025, Gia Lai will be affected by storms and floods, causing thousands of billions of VND in damage; many constructions, houses, and crops are flooded and damaged. The province is requesting a review of the ability to drain floodwaters and drain water on the river system, as well as a review of urban area and hydropower projects under implementation.
Mr. Cao Thanh Thuong - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment - said that the province will synchronously deploy immediate and long-term response measures. Gia Lai needs to review the planning, especially calculating the drainage problem for Long Van, Bau Lac, Nhon Binh and Nhon Phu urban areas based on actual hydrological data in 2025.
The authorities will strictly review the flood drainage capacity of Ecobay Thi Nai urban area at the floodgates to Ha Thanh bridge, ensuring that the flow to Thi Nai lagoon does not narrow. The Department of Agriculture and Environment also proposed to clear and dredge the Ha Thanh River and its branches. Recent dredging projects for Dinh River, Doi Bridge, and Phu Hoa Dam have shown their effectiveness in flood drainage in the context of historic rainfall.
Recently, the area around Quy Nhon urban area has strongly developed housing projects and new urban areas. If the leveling of the ground hinders the flow of canals and branch rivers, it will increase the risk of deep flooding, rapid flooding, affecting residential areas.
People hope that the appraisal and review process of urban projects will be carried out thoroughly, especially prioritizing environmental criteria and responding to climate change. Because the damage caused by natural disasters can be up to thousands of billions of VND, far exceeding the revenue from land division and sale or land use fees.
Review 7 medium and small hydropower projects
The Provincial People's Council has not yet passed a Resolution on 7 medium and small hydropower projects on the list of projects using land for bidding to select investors. In the context of heavy flood damage, these hydropower projects are considered " sensitive", which can aggravate the risk of flooding downstream.
The list includes: Ia Grai Thuong Hydropower Plant, Lo Pang, Dak Po Kei, Ia Hiao, Krong Ja taun, Ayun 2 and Dak Ayuonh. Mr. Truong Van Dat - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - said that the projects will be comprehensively reviewed, considering economic efficiency, environmental factors and sustainable development goals.
Mr. Tran Thuc Kham - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade - said that some projects have sufficient legal basis and are in accordance with the planning, especially small hydropower plants under 10 MW under the Power Plan VIII, capable of mobilizing capacity quickly and ensuring system safety.
However, due to the level of climate change and historic floods, Gia Lai province is still considering and comprehensively re-evaluating projects. If implemented, it is necessary to closely monitor, ensure compliance with the law, and carefully assess the impact on the environment, climate and natural landscape.
