At the end of the 2018-2019 season, Juventus and coach Max Allegri made a decision to "go their separate ways" after 5 years of association. In recent times, Allegri has been linked with many big clubs, notably Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and his former team AC Milan. However, he finally decided to take a year off before returning to work in the 2020-2021 season.
Sharing at an event in Milan, coach Allegri confirmed that he will temporarily leave the coaching bench in the coming season. The reason is because he wants to spend time with his family and "recharge" his energy:
I will take a year off to recharge my energy and bring my personal life back to the track after many years of work affecting my family, children as well as friends. For the past 16 years, work has turned my life around.
I want to make up for my family and friends. I will use this 1 year break to regenerate energy for the 2020-2021 season".
Previously, at a press conference to part ways with Juve and president Andrea Agnelli, the 51-year-old Italian coach revealed that he had no choice but to leave. Max Allegri said: I left a team that was able to maintain success in Italy for many years and had another impressive season in the Champions League. Unfortunately, some situations have prevented us from going to all tournaments this season.
We have had discussions and ideas about what is best for Juve and the future of Juve. After that, the club evaluated those things and decided that the best thing was not to be the coach of the team in the next season," coach Max Allegri shared with the press.
Coach Allegri started his coaching career in 2003 with Aglianese Club, then playing in Serie C2 (equivalent to the 4th division of Italy). After that, he continued to build his name with small clubs such as SPAL, Sassuolo and Cagliari before going to the two strongest teams in Italy, AC Milan and Juventus.
During his time leading Juventus, Allegri helped the "Old Lady" win 5 consecutive Serie A titles, 4 Coppa Italia and 2 Italian Super Cups. In the Champions League, the 51-year-old strategist has been close to winning the championship twice but unfortunately has only been able to finish second (season 2014-2015 and 2016-2017). This season, Juventus suffered a bitter defeat to Ajax Amsterdam in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. This was one of the main reasons for his departure from the Allianz. The board wants a change on the coaching bench to be able to win the prestigious silver cup.
