Los Angeles FC (LAFC) is trying to bring Son Heung-min to the US to play in the MLS professional league. LAFC's interest in Son is not new, there have been connections since the end of last season.
Currently, LAFC has not sent any official offers to Tottenham but the American team wants to bring the Korean striker here this summer. The MLS sub-transfer period opens on 24 July and ends on 21 August, which could be the time for Son to say goodbye to England.
Son is now 33 years old and seems to no longer be in the long-term plans of new captain Thomas Frank at Spurs. Recently, when the former Brentford coach was asked about Son Heung-min's future, he said this was a very difficult situation.

In the near future, Son Heung-min will join Tottenham on a pre-season Asian tour. Spurs will face Arsenal in China on July 31 and Newcastle in South Korea on August 3. The Telegraph revealed that the match against Newcastle is very important because without Son, Tottenham could only receive 25% of the total revenue from this event. This is understandable because Son is a Korean player, the number 1 sports idol of this country.
If he comes to the US soon, Son Heung-min could become the most expensive transfer fee in MLS history. The striker has scored at least 10 goals in eight consecutive Premier League seasons and is still a top star. In the past, Son won the title of Top Scorer of the tournament, Premier League Runner-up 2017, Champions League Runner-up 2019, League Cup Runner-up 2021 and Europa League Championship 2025.
LAFC is eager to expand its commercial operations in the Korean market. To do that, if Son Heung-min is in hand, they will penetrate more easily. In contrast, in Los Angeles alone, the Korean community is also very large.
According to the Pew Research Center, Los Angeles is the urban area with the largest Korean population in the US (320,000 people), ranking above other large urban areas such as New York (215,000 people) and Washington, D.C. (95,000 people).

With Rodrigo de Paul set to sign an official contract with Inter Miami, Son Heung-min will be the second big player in the 2025 summer transfer window if LAFC completes the deal. LAFC currently have two designated players after terminating their contracts with Olivier Giroud.
If he signs with LAFC, Son will be reunited with his long-time Tottenham teammate - goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The French goalkeeper signed for LAFC in 2024 and has played more than 52 matches in the US this season.
LAFC is currently ranked 5th in the Western region rankings but still has many matches left to play after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
