Group B includes Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Laos. All five teams have excellent players in their squads. Here are the five most notable players from each team, according to the AFF Cup 2024 homepage.
Marselino Ferdinand (Indonesia)
At just 20 years old, Ferdinand is already a regular member of the Indonesian national team, having made 32 appearances and scored 5 goals. He has shone at every level of the Indonesian team, winning the gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games.
Under the guidance of Shin Tae-yong, Ferdinand's talent has developed significantly. In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, this striker scored a double to help Indonesia defeat Saudi Arabia 2-0.
Ferdinand will be the biggest inspiration for the Indonesian team to aim for the 2024 AFF Cup championship, after 6 previous runner-up finishes.
Maung Maung Lwin (Myanmar)
Maung Maung Lwin made history for Myanmar with a key role in their historic appearance at the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The 2024 AFF Cup marks the 29-year-old's fifth appearance in the region's premier tournament. Maung Maung Lwin hopes to join his teammates in the semi-finals for the first time since 2016. Maung Maung Lwin has also scored in three different editions of the tournament in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
Jefferson Tabinas (Philippines)
Jefferson Tabinas has two goals and one assist for the Philippines in his last five appearances and will play a key role in coach Albert Capellas’ side, who is hoping to take his side to the AFF Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2018.
Born in Japan, Tabinas began his professional career with Kawasaki Frontale before being loaned out to FC Gifu and Gamba Osaka. While playing for J2 League side Mito Hollyhock, Tabinas established himself as a regular in the Philippines national team.
Bounphachan Bounkong (Laos)
Bounphachan Bounkong will be making his third appearance at the AFF Cup at the age of 23. At the 2024 AFF Cup, he will captain the Laos national team, which is currently coached by Ha Hyeok-jun. The Laos national team aims to reach the knockout stage for the first time in the tournament in its 14th appearance at the AFF Cup.
Bounkong was named the most valuable player when Laos reached the semi-finals of the AFF U23 Championship a few years ago. He cemented his place in the national team at that time, having made his debut in 2018. His most recent goal for the national team came against Thailand in a 1-1 draw last November.
Nguyen Quang Hai (Vietnam)
Quang Hai was the best player at the AFF Cup 2018, where he and the Vietnamese team won convincingly. As one of the most classy players in Southeast Asian football in the past few years, Quang Hai is determined to help the Vietnamese team aim for the third regional championship in his career.
Coach Kim Sang-sik will rely heavily on Quang Hai's experience to have a successful first tournament with the Vietnamese team. If he can reproduce his excellent form from the 2018 AFF Cup (scoring 5 goals, having 5 assists), Quang Hai will help the Vietnamese team fly high.
