Focus on national team activities
In 2024, the Vietnamese women's team will not compete in official tournaments, but will have the important task of consolidating its forces to prepare for 2025, including the 33rd SEA Games, the Southeast Asian Championship and the 2026 Asian qualifiers.
In the context of needing to rejuvenate the force, while the next generation of young players do not have many opportunities to compete internationally, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) continues to invest in the Vietnamese women's team to train and compete in friendly matches in the Czech Republic, and participate in an international invitational tournament held in China.
The National U20 Women's Team also participated in the U20 Women's Asian Cup Finals. Although they did not advance past the group stage, the tournament provided young players with more opportunities to compete, improve their skills and gain experience.
The national U15/U17 teams have long-term training; the national U16 women's team is given the opportunity to participate in a friendly tournament in Türkiye.
Investing in national women's football tournaments
With the number of 8 teams participating in the national women's football tournament, each round of matches must have 2-3 stadiums to ensure the organization of the tournament in centralized competition conditions. Finding a locality that can meet the number of stadiums, training grounds, and ensure the quality of the grass is very difficult, but VFF has made efforts to ensure the tournament is organized as planned.
The organization also had many positive changes: Player registration on the FIFA Connect system was carried out quickly and made it easy for the player qualification department to review the records; security, medical and logistics work was carefully prepared; communication work for women's football tournaments was improved, matches were broadcast live and streamed online on social networking platforms...
The National U16 Tournament also increased by 1 team compared to the 2023 season, or the National U19 Tournament has 9 teams registered to participate, showing that localities have been focusing on investing in youth training.
It is worth mentioning that Thai Son Bac Electrical Equipment Trading Company Limited will continue to be associated with the National Women's Football Championship until 2026. This is the brand that has been associated with football in general, and women's football in particular, the longest, since 2011. The National U19 Tournament has Acecook as its sponsor for the first time... This is a testament to VFF's efforts to invest in and improve the quality of women's football.
With these achievements, Vietnam was selected by AFC to be on the list of 8 National Federations with direct participation in the 2024 Asian Women's Club Championship from October 6-12, 2024. Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club represented Vietnam in the tournament and won the right to enter the quarterfinals.
VFF is one of 5 Asian regional federations selected by UEFA to participate in the UEFA/AFC Project to support the development of women's football for a period of 3 years (from 2024-2027).
From November 6-8, a UEFA delegation visited Vietnam to work directly. Previously, in August and September 2024, AFC/UEFA and VFF jointly organized a number of seminars with important contents.
To continue improving the quality of national women's football tournaments, the Women's Football Committee and the functional committees discussed the contents of the Vietnam Football Regulations such as: New regulations on female player contracts; training roadmap and upgrading the level of coaching certificates in women's football; researching plans to increase the number of matches for players to gain experience; arranging the best training and competition conditions for national women's teams; food, accommodation, salary, and spiritual life of female players.
In addition, VFF has planned to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training and other units to organize more national U12-13 women's youth football tournaments to promote the movement and find more athletes for the future.
At the same time, send experts or establish a monitoring team to discover and train young players in grassroots football activities such as Phu Dong Sports Festival, community football classes, etc.
