The Vietnamese women's futsal team enters the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship as the defending champion.
The titles won in the past 2 years, including the regional championship in 2024 and the gold medal at SEA Games 33, are an important foundation for coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team to aim for the goal of protecting their number one position.
Recently, the Vietnamese team has been strengthened in training, friendly matches and perfecting tactics to improve professional quality, especially the ability to control pace and organize play at high intensity.
However, the journey to conquer the championship will not be easy as opponents in the region are improving significantly. Besides, the dense schedule with 3 consecutive matches in 3 days poses a big problem in terms of fitness and team rotation ability.
On the other side, the Australian women's futsal team is a newcomer to the region. This team was only established in recent years and is still in the foundational stage.
At the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship finals, Australia lost all 3 matches against China, Uzbekistan and Taiwan (China), showing a certain gap in level.
Participating in this year's tournament, Australia's squad is a combination of experienced players and 8 faces participating at the international level for the first time.
Compared to Australia, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is rated slightly higher in terms of technique, tactical organization and competition experience. If playing to their full potential, Thuy Trang and her teammates have a chance to bring home their first victory.
The match between the Vietnamese women's futsal team and Australia takes place at 1:30 PM today (February 24), live on TV360.
