The 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship kicks off from February 24 to March 2 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, gathering the 7 strongest teams in the region. Participating teams include host Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Australia and the Philippines.
According to the draw results, the Vietnamese women's futsal team fell into Group B with Myanmar, Philippines and Australia. Group A includes Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Before going to Thailand, the Vietnamese team had a training camp in Japan with two friendly matches with Bardral Urayasu club. These matches helped the coaching staff review the squad, check fitness and adjust tactical plans in the final preparation phase.
In the group stage, Australia is considered a noteworthy unknown when it has just established a women's futsal team since 2024 and is participating in a Southeast Asian regional tournament for the first time. With good physique and fitness, this opponent can create a big challenge in Vietnam's opening match.
The Philippines team is also a potential opponent after hosting the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup, with progress in both organization and expertise.
Meanwhile, Myanmar is assessed as uncomfortable thanks to its technical playing style and ability to create individual breakthroughs, which has caused many difficulties for Vietnam at recent SEA Games.
As the defending champion, the Vietnamese women's futsal team aims to defend the title. However, the dense schedule and the development of opponents force the coaching staff to carefully calculate tactics, personnel and fitness distribution to maintain an advantage in the journey to conquer the tournament.
