Initially, AFC planned to hold the draw on April 11. However, due to the conflict in the Middle East, the event was postponed to ensure the full participation of all major stakeholders and participating member associations.
This adjustment reflects the commitment of the AFC and the local Organizing Committee to organize a solemn ceremony, worthy of the prestige and position of the continent's leading tournament.
To date, the 2027 Asian Cup has identified 23/24 participating teams. The remaining spot will belong to the Lebanese or Yemeni teams, when the two teams will play the decisive match on June 4.
The upcoming draw will divide the teams into 6 groups, each group with 4 teams. The teams are divided into 4 seed groups, each group with 6 teams. Each group at the 2027 Asian Cup will have 4 teams from 4 different seed groups.
The Vietnamese team, ranked 99th in the world, will be in the 3rd seed group along with Thailand, Bahrain, China, Palestine and Tajikistan.
The No. 2 seed group includes Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, UAE, Oman, Syria teams. Meanwhile, Group No. 1 gathers the strongest teams in Asia such as Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. These are also the teams that will participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Group 4 gathers teams including Kyrgyzstan, DPRK, Indonesia, Kuwait, Singapore and Lebanon or Yemen.
Based on the draw method, the Vietnamese team may be in a very heavy group with the Japan, Iraq and Indonesia teams. This is also the group of the Vietnamese team at the 2023 Asian Cup, where the team lost all 3 matches.
The 2027 Asian Cup will take place in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to February 5, 2027. This is the 3rd consecutive Asian Cup that the Vietnamese team has passed the qualifiers.
