The AFF Cup is the biggest football tournament in Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese team has only won the tournament twice, in 2008 and 2018, under coaches Calisto and Park Hang-seo, respectively.
Meanwhile, Thailand has won the AFF Cup the most times with 7 times and Singapore is second with 4 times.
In the last 2 seasons, the Vietnamese team lost 0-2 to Thailand in the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2020 and then lost to the same opponent in the final of the AFF Cup 2022 with a final score of 2-3 (after 2 matches).
Coming to the AFF Cup 2024, the goal of the Vietnamese team is to participate in the final match of the tournament. According to the draw results, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are in Group B with opponents Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.
A few days ago, the Korean coach selected a list of 30 Vietnamese players to prepare for the Southeast Asian tournament.
According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will travel to Korea on a flight in the early morning of November 23. Quang Hai and his teammates will have 3 practice matches with Ulsan Citizen (K.League 3), Daegu FC and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (K.League 1) to train their players.
