Here are habits recommended by gastroenterologist Will Bulsiewicz for good health as you age.
1. Exercise outdoors
Exposure to sunlight helps you sleep better. Plus, walking outdoors can help reduce stress levels, improve your mood, and improve your digestive health.
2. Eat foods rich in fiber
Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and other sources of fiber such as beans and nuts will help prevent heart disease, cancer and prolong life.
3. Limit alcohol consumption
Regular alcohol consumption can increase your risk of heart disease and some cancers, so limit your alcohol intake to stay healthy.
4. Stay connected with people
Connecting with family and friends in person can reduce the risk of dementia by up to 31%. And too much screen time can be bad for your health, as it can disrupt sleep and cause feelings of depression and stress.
5. Get enough sleep
Getting enough sleep helps support immune health, heart health, skin health, and energy levels. However, lack of sleep or sleeping too late can negatively impact memory and cognitive abilities.
