Potatoes bring many nutrients to children such as protein, fiber, lipids, gluxid... In particular, potatoes also provide vitamin A and Beta-carotene - these are nutrients that help children increase resistance, develop height and are very good for health.
There are many dishes that can be made from potatoes, among which, mashed potatoes are also one of the favorite dishes of children. This dish originates from Europe but is especially popular in Vietnam because it is easy to prepare and attractive because of its delicious and fatty taste.
To make mashed potatoes, housewives need to prepare 2 medium-sized potatoes (or 1 large potato), 30ml unsweetened fresh milk, 30gr unsweetened butter, 20ml maple syrup.
Next, wash the potatoes thoroughly with water to remove dirt. Peel and slice the chess with a size of about 3 - 5cm. Slicing potatoes will help the steaming or boiling process faster.
After slicing, soak the potatoes in a bowl of filtered water for 30 - 45 minutes to remove the remaining starch from inside and steam (or boil) until the potatoes are soft. To check the ripeness of the potatoes, deposit a stick in the potato pieces. If the potato pieces are cracked or broken, it must be fully ripe. Note, when stewing potatoes, you need to check every 3 minutes to avoid the potatoes getting too ripe and losing all the nutrients.
When the potatoes are soft, puree with specialized tools or a loan. During the grinding process, add unsalted butter, milk and maple syrup. It is also noted that housewives should not add all of the above ingredients at one time because it will cause the mashed potatoes to thin, losing the flavor and nutrients of the dish.
In case you want the potatoes to be more light, use a multi-purpose grinder. Put the potatoes in a blender, then turn on the lightest mode to puree. During that process, continue to gradually add unsalted butter, fresh milk and maple syrup and blend until the mixture thickens before filtering another time through the sieve to complete.
To enjoy delicious mashed potatoes, you can combine them with a slice of baked banh mi. The dish can also become a decent appetizer or side dish at each party.
