90 boarding houses equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi
Recently, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation inaugurated the "Free Wireless Internet Access System at worker dormitories" phase 1 in 2025. In this phase, 90 dormitories in communes and wards: An Phong, Thuy Nguyen, Duong Kinh, Do Son, Vinh Bao are equipped with free Wi-Fi.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (from Nghe An) is currently a worker in Do Son Industrial Park, renting a room in Nam Do Son ward. Every day, after work hours, Mr. Duc, like workers in the same rented area, only surfs the web, reads newspapers, and only calls home with pictures all week to ask about his family. Since the rented area was equipped with wireless Internet connection supported by the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, calls are more frequent and not interrupted. "Going to work hundreds of kilometers away from my family, my homesickness also subsided. During the April 30th and May 1st holidays, although I could not return to my hometown, I still felt the family atmosphere through images" - Mr. Duc shared.
According to Mr. Ta Quang Vi - the landlord in Thien Huong ward, since the boarding area was supported with free Wi-Fi, the workers in the boarding area are excited, and the atmosphere every night is much busier. Workers come home from work with Internet to watch movies, listen to music, read newspapers, discuss current affairs, market prices... Along with the support of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, Mr. Vi's family also installed more cameras to ensure security in the boarding area.
Our boarding areas are mainly workers from other provinces, with difficult economic circumstances. Therefore, the concern and support from Trade Union levels, whether many or few, is a very meaningful source of encouragement, not only for workers but also for landlords. We hope the program will continue to spread widely throughout workers' boarding areas" - Mr. Do Huy Hung - landlord near Do Son Industrial Park - shared.
Spiritual gift for workers
It is known that, along with taking care of salaries, jobs and working conditions, improving cultural and spiritual life, supporting information access for migrant workers in boarding houses is always a task that the Trade Union organization pays special attention to. Since 2022, the City Labor Federation has piloted the model "Civilized and Safe Workers' Housing Area" with many practical and meaningful activities such as: Equipping medicine cabinets; supporting air conditioning for boarding rooms with pregnant women or young children; donating trash cans to sort waste; organizing visits and giving gifts on the occasion of Workers' Month and Lunar New Year; propagating policies and laws; free medical examinations for boarding workers... At the end of 2021, the city also covered free Wi-Fi in 79 boarding houses with many workers in Hai Phong City with 1,266 rooms, more than 3,800 workers benefited.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet - Standing Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City Labor Federation - said that from the effectiveness of the model, the City Labor Federation continues to invest in equipping wireless Internet systems at 90 boarding houses. This is one of the key activities to concretize Project No. 04 of Hai Phong City Labor Federation on replicating the model "Civilized and safe worker housing area" for the period 2025 - 2030, responding to Workers' Month, Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health and Hai Phong Red Flamboyant Flower Festival 2026.
This is not only a meaningful gift but also shows the sharing and companionship of the Trade Union organization and coordinating units towards migrant workers. Through this program, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation hopes that each boarding house will not only be a place to live but also become a "digital cultural space", where workers have more conditions to study, improve their qualifications, and access useful information after hard working hours.
