Recently, calls for technology car drivers to turn off the Grab app appeared on social networks, and at the same time gathered crowds for two days, September 12th and 13th, to protest against businesses. Immediately, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union organization intervened to help workers calm down and correctly understand the issue in the face of provocative calls.
Mr. Le Tan Luu, Chairman of Binh Tan Technology Car Union, where more than 1,800 union members are operating for technology car companies, said that before the information on social networks, the Executive Committee of the union has proactively grasped the situation, followed the content shared in the driver community and listened to the thoughts and grievances of union members.
In the spirit of protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers, the union does not avoid the issues that brothers are concerned about, but at the same time determines that it is necessary to propagate so that union members can choose a suitable way to express their opinions, calmly and in accordance with regulations.
The union quickly communicated through Zalo and Facebook groups and exchanged directly with brothers and sisters, clearly analyzing that calling for crowds to gather to protest could lead to the risk of affecting public order, security, social safety and leading to unwanted consequences.
More importantly, the first to suffer may be the drivers themselves, losing driving time, losing income, affecting work and potentially incurring legal risks if the act exceeds the permissible limit.
Listening, sharing, and proposing to ensure that workers are adequately protected
Mr. Phung Thai Quang - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center - said that immediately after grasping the information about the call for technology car drivers to turn off the Grab app and focus on protesting against businesses, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation quickly sent people to contact the Binh Tan Technology Car Union, to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of these brothers and sisters.
Along with that, trade union organizations promptly propagate so that technology drivers know that concerns about fares, income and policies are completely legitimate. Drivers have the right to share, speak out and request relevant parties to listen and resolve them satisfactorily. However, before the calls on social networks, each person needs to calmly verify the information and consider carefully, so that the frustration is not exploited or led to actions that are detrimental to themselves.
The Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union organization also emphasized that, to effectively protect legitimate rights, priority should be given to dialogue, negotiation and recommendations with clear content, constructive attitude, contributions and most importantly, in accordance with the law. Based and well-presented reflections will help legitimate issues be considered more seriously.
In addition, if you find that a platform does not meet your needs, you can proactively learn, experience and choose another platform that is more suitable. Driver competition and choice is also a way to express your voice.
In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center has coordinated with many related units to organize the Workshop "Social Security for Technology Drivers - Current Situation and Solutions" on September 15, 2026. At this workshop, technology drivers had the opportunity to present their current employment, income, thoughts, and aspirations for functional agencies to listen to. Experts and scientists also analyzed many legal aspects to show the need to identify technology motorbike taxi drivers as employees to participate in compulsory social insurance like employees in businesses and units.
Based on listening to the opinions of technology car drivers, experts, scientists, and trade union organizations in Ho Chi Minh City, together with relevant parties, will propose to businesses a platform for algorithm transparency, promote a negotiation mechanism on discount rates, and propose to expand compulsory social insurance for technology car drivers, so that workers are protected commensurately for their contributions to the foundation economy.
Mr. Luu The Thuan - Chairman of Bau Bang Commune Trade Union, Ho Chi Minh City - said that before the shares of workers about receiving one-time social insurance on social networks, realizing that workers when receiving one-time social insurance will suffer many disadvantages, in programs to contact workers, the Commune Trade Union has integrated propaganda on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of receiving one-time social insurance. The Commune Trade Union also reminds grassroots trade unions to regularly integrate content about social insurance to propagate to workers to understand the rights when participating in social insurance to have long-term benefits and the consequences when withdrawing one-time social insurance.
