Social networks have been one of the important factors for humans in the era of internet boom. Currently, it is difficult to find someone who does not use any kind of social network. Young people even participate in almost all existing social networks. Facebook, Instagram, YouTuber have grown extremely strongly with billions of users, making parent companies like Meta, Google become a big man in the technology industry.
The trend of leaving social networks began?
Recently, a well -known Youtuber from the early days of social networks in Vietnam, JVevermind, posted a video about social networks becoming increasingly boring, no longer attractive as before. This video has collected many mixed comments, but it is impossible not to deny a truth: social networks have changed a lot compared to the time a few years ago.
"At the beginning of social networking, I found it very attractive and attractive. I was free to open Facebook, Instagram to surf and comment on my friends' posts. However, social networks like Facebook are now filled with negative news, advertising images instead of helping me connect with friends. This makes me really bored on social networks," said Minh Phong, a banker in Hanoi.
This is not a rare condition. Currently, it seems that the changes of social networks have pushed users further than ever. Too many ads, too many features, reducing the ability to connect between people are the main reasons that many people decide to stop using social networks.
The same opinion with Mr. Phong, Ms. Phuong Thao, an international student in Japan, shared that I have not seen a post from the true user for a long time on social networks.
"I often use Instagram to post photos, personal photos and family. I do not often follow strangers but mainly interact with family and friends online. However, unlike before, every time I open Instagram, I see a lot of ads as well as the strange post of people I don't know. The connection with them, "Thao said.
Not only Vietnamese social network users, social network users in many parts of the world also have the same situation. According to the newly published survey of Hoootsuite, most social network users are feeling tired with increasing advertising volume on these platforms. The report is made based on the opinions of more than 6,000 people aged 18 to 65 in some countries, showing a clear fact: advertising is taking too much space in the online experience.
About 59% of the survey participants believe that advertising on social networks is too much, although more than 60% acknowledges that it is ads that help these platforms maintain free operation. However, the level of tolerance of users is being pushed to the limit. More than half of the respondents (52%) felt depressed with excessive promotional content from brands. The post is only for the purpose of praising or forcing viewers to interact, making users lose sympathy.
One of the most common reasons for users to stop tracking a brand is the use of the view sentence title (Clickbait), accounting for 76%. In addition, the contents are judged to be boring, unreal, or repeated, causing about 68% of the survey participants no longer interested. The brand posting just to capture likes or sharing is also considered by 63% of users to be offensive.
Why is social media getting boring?
Social networks today seem to be everywhere in life, bringing many utilities but also many troubles. Although initially attractive, many people gradually feel tired of the negative characteristics that these platforms bring. In particular, the three main reasons why social networks are less and less attractive are the spread of gossip, infringement of privacy and too many negative dramas.
One of the reasons why many people away from social networks is being surrounded by rumors and private life of others. Daily conversations can become a long series of questions such as: "That girl has deleted all the posts", "He broke up his lover?". Behind that curiosity is the need to search for a temporary satisfaction. Despite the temporary joy, the judgment and scrutiny of other people's lives easily lead to psychological consequences, making users fall into a state of inferiority, depression and imbalance.
Besides, social networks increasingly fade the boundary between publicity and privacy. Many users prefer to pay attention and share personal life, but the popularity comes with significant pressure. Users may be placed in an awkward situation when they are asked about privacy, recognized when going out, or seeing personal images that are spread without permission. Being monitored or impersonated through a fake account is no stranger. Even ordinary users are not outside the risk of being infringed on privacy if they are not careful with their personal information.
Another factor that makes social networks tired is the dense presence of negative content. News of violence, injustice, emotional failure, and mutual blaming status lines make users easily fall into a gloomy feeling. There are accounts specializing in sharing miserable images or negative words, thereby creating content imbalance.
While some people sympathize, many people think that social networks should be a place to inspire, educate or entertain instead of making viewers worse. Especially for young people, 45% of teenagers said they felt overloaded because of "dramas" online, and among those who abandon social networks, more than three quarters said that the main reason was because of too many dramatic, according to Medium.com.
