Over the past 50 years, since Saigon - Gia Dinh City was honored to be named Ho Chi Minh City (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026), the team of workers, civil servants and laborers (CNVCLĐ) has made positive contributions to the development of the City named after Uncle Ho.
Emulation movements bring clear results
The Saigon - Cho Lon workers' team from its birth to 1975 has constantly promoted its core role in the revolutionary movement of the city in particular and the whole country in general. This workers' movement is not only for the vital interests, for their food and clothing and the right to live, but also for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for class friendship with the workers' movement and the world revolution.
In the early years when the South was newly liberated, the situation of shortage of supplies, raw materials, and spare parts in factories was extremely serious... The City's CNVCLĐ force always stood firm in the leading position, persistently clinging to machines and workshops to produce with slogans "Removing obstacles to launch production", "Saving is a national policy"; campaigns "Dien Bien Labor Production", "100 days and nights"; movements "3 Goods Emulation", "Raising the Red Banner in August", "Youth Mastering Science and Technology"... have made important contributions to bringing production and life of the city out of difficulties and challenges.
Continuing the tradition of the typical senior workers, the city's young workers have gradually matured in production labor and are the pride of city workers. Emulation movements launched by trade union organizations such as "Good labor with productivity, quality, efficiency, ensuring labor safety and hygiene", "Learning to improve qualifications in all aspects, meeting the requirements of industrialization and modernization", "Practicing skills, competing in skilled workers", "Good at state affairs, good at housework"... have been actively responded to by millions of City workers and employees. Especially since 2000, the movement to promote technical innovation initiatives with the Ton Duc Thang Award annually, city workers and employees have had hundreds of new product projects, technical innovation initiatives, benefiting and saving the State and businesses hundreds of billions of VND.
Emulation movements have achieved clear results and aroused a sense of responsibility, revolutionary enthusiasm, creative labor spirit, self-reliance and self-strengthening awareness, daring to think and dare to do, overcoming difficulties of the contingent of workers and employees. Through the movement, more and more advanced examples, good people, good deeds typical of the revolutionary tradition of the working class have emerged; contributing to completing the socio-economic goals of the City in each revolutionary period.
Continue to promote the tradition of Labor Hero, actively emulate to improve labor productivity
From July 1, 2025, with a new development space after administrative unit arrangement, Ho Chi Minh City has a scale of more than 6,700 km2, a population of more than 14 million people and simultaneously converges advantages in services, industry, seaports, logistics, marine economy, finance, technology and innovation.
According to economic data from Ho Chi Minh City announced in 2025, the City's GRDP reached about 3.03 million billion VND, accounting for 23.5% of the country's GDP; budget revenue is estimated at over 746. 000 billion VND; foreign investment capital is estimated at 8.9 billion USD. These figures not only reflect the scale and contributions to socio-economic development, but also show the direct impact of Ho Chi Minh City on national competitiveness.
Along with that, the team of union members and trade union organizations in Ho Chi Minh City also has new developments in scale and quantity. Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation is managing 23,070 grassroots trade unions with more than 2.4 million union members, accounting for about 20% of the total number of grassroots trade unions and union members nationwide.
The 1st Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union, term 2025 - 2030, set out the general goal of promoting the tradition of solidarity, pioneering, and creativity; digital transformation breakthrough to innovate operating methods; improving the quality of representation, protection, and care for union members and workers; building a strong Trade Union organization; accompanying Ho Chi Minh City to firmly step forward in the new era of development.
Ho Chi Minh City is entering a stage with many great opportunities, and at the same time sets higher development requirements, must reach a new stature, become an economic, financial, and innovative center with competitiveness in the Asian region. Workers, civil servants and laborers and the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union organization will continue to promote the tradition of Labor Hero, actively emulate to improve labor productivity, to build a civilized, modern, and compassionate Ho Chi Minh City as directed by General Secretary and President To Lam in a recent working session with the City, which is "Ho Chi Minh City must not only be a national economic locomotive but also become a modern urban area with influence in the global city network". And especially worthy of the title of City named after beloved Uncle Ho," Mr. Vo Khac Thai - Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, emphasized.
