Ms. Nguyen Thi An works as a worker in Thang Long Industrial Park (Hanoi). Her family rents a room in Dai Mach commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. The couple was from Tuyen Quang, but during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday, they decided to stay in their rented room and not return to their hometown. "My youngest child is only 10 months old, so I don't want him to have to travel too much. Moreover, going at this time often requires a jostling, ticket prices increase every other day, and it costs more money, so my husband and I decided to stay in the rented room" - Ms. An said.
In addition to workers who consider the Ancestor's Commemoration Day as a time to rest, for many people, this is an opportunity to work extra to earn a much higher income than normal days.
Mr. Tran Tien Anh worked overtime on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings, while his wife and young children returned to their hometown in Phu Tho. According to the male worker's calculation, he will earn about 2 million VND from working on Sundays and Monday. "I work on Sunday and get 200% of my salary; I work on Monday (the day off for the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day), I work at night and get 390% of my salary" - Mr. Anh said.
