The conference was organized by the Global Industrial and Manufacturing Workers Union (IndustriALL) in collaboration with the FES Institute, with the participation of delegates from Taiwan (China), Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, Vietnam and the host Philippines.
The delegation of Vietnam Trade Union was led by Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Member of the Standing Committee, Head of Legal Policy and Labor Relations, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Trade Union. Members of the delegation were representatives of Vietnam Oil and Gas Trade Union and Vietnam Electricity Trade Union. These are labor-intensive industries, which are increasingly affected by the process of labor restructuring, especially when machines gradually replace humans and recruiting new workers also faces many difficulties.
The conference focused on introducing and sharing the latest knowledge and experience on the trend of fair transition, which is an inevitable requirement in the context of science and technology making great strides, especially in artificial intelligence, big data and materials technology - engineering. The energy sector in any country plays an important role in economic and financial development but also faces the challenges of a fair transition, especially not leaving any workers behind.
One of the contents focused at the Conference was to introduce the general definitions of just transition, the steps to be taken in each stage from short-term, medium-term to long-term for the transition process to take place appropriately and effectively. Among these, the “Guide to practice just transition” was the focus of the conference with sharing from IndustriALL experts and participating countries.
