On September 24, Nha Trang City Labor Federation organized a visit and gave gifts to union members working at Vinh Nguyen 2 Kindergarten at two locations on Vung Ngan and Bich Dam islands.
After nearly 1 hour by canoe to Bich Dam island, about 15km from Nha Trang city, the group brought toys, uniforms for the island's students and gifts for the 2 teachers working at the school, which are essential items.
At Vung Ngan island, the delegation also gave uniforms and toys to the children and gave 2 members a set of solar lights and essential items.
Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet - Chairman of Nha Trang City Labor Federation - said that the gifts worth nearly 12 million VND given to the children today came from the support of the school's grassroots unions. In particular, the Au Co Secondary School Union supported toys, Phuoc Tien Kindergarten supported uniforms for students on the islands, and the Labor Federation mobilized to buy candy and essential items for union members.
According to Mr. Duyet, these are gifts according to the wishes of teachers and students on the islands. To have today's trip, before the new school year, the City Labor Federation organized a survey of the actual work needs of union members on islands far from the city.
Although the facilities of the schools on the island have been significantly improved, the working conditions on the remote and windy island are the most difficult for teachers, with limited means of transportation, expensive water costs, and no electricity... Therefore, essential items such as pots, pans, bowls, and especially solar lights are practical gifts for 2 union members and 10 students on Vung Ngan island to use for lighting when there is no electricity on the island.
Sharing the current difficulties of teachers working on the two islands, the leaders of Nha Trang City Labor Union also encouraged union members to overcome limitations to complete assigned tasks. Nha Trang City Labor Union always accompanies union members to propose and provide timely support.
According to Mr. Duyet, in recent times, to improve travel conditions for union members working on the island, the Union has worked with relevant units to have policies to partially support transportation costs between the islands and the mainland to reduce the burden.
Currently, the City Labor Union is also working with units to request free parking support for teachers going to the island... With the role of taking care of workers, the City Labor Union continues to mobilize from many socialized sources to share some of the difficulties so that union members can feel secure staying on the island.
