Sedo Vinako - a bright spot of security in the midst of floods
In early November, Dong Yen industrial cluster (Da Nang city) still exuded a strong smell of moisture after the flood. In the factory of Sedo Vinako Company Limited, hundreds of workers diligently cleaned each machine, reattaching the production line that had just been swept away by water.
The flood at the end of October caused water to flood into the entire factory area, damaging equipment and goods, and interrupting production. Hundreds of workers also had their houses flooded and lost their property. In that difficult context, the board of directors of Sedo Vinako Company decided to allocate more than 15 billion VND, directly supporting more than 5,000 employees (3 million VND/person) to promptly share the burden.
"We know many workers are struggling. Although businesses suffered great losses, if they were not supported in time, they would have a harder time. As soon as the water receded, from the director to the workers worked together to clean up, disinfect the factory, check - replace the machinery. We must meet year-end orders to keep jobs and increase compensation income after floods" - Mr. Kim Byung Tae - Director of Sedo Vinako LLC - shared.
Not only Sedo Vinako, many businesses in Da Nang have helped to reduce the difficulties of workers and people in flooded areas. Hoiana disbursed 1 billion VND to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City, and directly presented 5,000 bottles of water, 800 boxes of cakes and hundreds of hot meals to the people. "We will continue to monitor and support until people are stable" - said the company representative.
At the same time, Daikyo Ohta Clothing Company Limited (Dien Ban) gave all employees 6 days off with full salary, transferring 2 million VND/person in support to overcome the consequences of the flood. At Hitech Vietnam Company (Tay An Industrial Park, Duy Xuyen), more than 1,400 workers received 1.4 million VND/person... "Workers are the largest asset. In times of trouble, we must take care of them first" - Hitech's leader briefly shared.
Enterprises, trade unions, and the community join hands
According to Mr. Le Van Dai - Permanent Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation, the union will support workers in two phases. Phase 1 focuses on directly supporting more than 10,000 workers and laborers who suffered heavy damage; phase 2 encourages rescue forces and units to participate in overcoming the consequences; visits and supports flood and storm prevention and control checkpoints in localities and enterprises to soon stabilize production.
At 29/3 Textile Joint Stock Company, statistics in the first phase showed that 697 union members suffered losses. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Dang - a sewing worker - shared: "My family raises two young children, with unstable income, and was deeply flooded during the recent flood. Many tools and rice were damaged. Today, I was really touched to receive the support gift. Just a little helps us have money to repair the car to go to work, starting over".
This natural disaster caused heavy losses: Thousands of households and many businesses in Da Nang were deeply flooded; agricultural product warehouses and electronics stores suffered great damage. It took 5 days for the Hai Vinh agricultural product warehouse (An Thang ward) to mobilize nearly 20 people to clean up nearly 1,000 bags of rice, sticky rice, beans, and sugar to be transported out, with an estimated loss of more than 1 billion VND. "It is difficult to be calm when there is a big loss, but we have to continue working. First of all, clean up and handle the damaged goods; then consider restoring business" - said the warehouse representative.
