In recent days, the construction atmosphere at the Trade Union social housing project site in Trung An ward (Dong Thap province) has become more urgent. At the construction site, workers are busy constructing many housing items. The project is being implemented to meet the urgent needs for housing and community living space for workers.
Mr. Nguyen The Phat - working in My Tho ward (Dong Thap province) - said that he is currently renting a room for 800,000 VND/month. The room was built a long time ago, so it is degraded, the walls are painted old and stained. On hot sunny days, the room becomes stuffy, even with a fan on, it still feels sultry. Therefore, Mr. Phat really wants to access social housing to stabilize his life and have a more spacious place to live.
According to Mr. Phat, what workers desire is not only stable accommodation but also a safe living environment, playgrounds for children and community living spaces. "After work, if there is a place to exercise and participate in cultural activities, life will be less stressful. Workers far from home like us really need such spaces," said Mr. Nguyen The Phat.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tam - working at a business in Trung An Industrial Cluster (Dong Thap province) - shared: "Although the rented room has a attic, when it's so hot, the attic is just a place to store things and cannot be stayed because it's hot and stuffy. Since the weather started to get hot, I've moved my belongings downstairs to sleep. Because even in the evening, it's still very stuffy, I can't sleep peacefully.
According to Mr. Tam, most of the rented rooms that workers are currently renting do not fully meet living needs, and amenities are still lacking. "I hope functional agencies will pay attention to investing so that workers can access social housing with reasonable prices, suitable for income. In addition, the accommodation needs to be airy, spacious and safe for workers," Mr. Tam said.
Mr. Trinh Quang Minh - Deputy Head of the Trade Union Facilities Project Management Board (Vietnam General Confederation of Labor) - said that the Trade Union social housing project in Tien Giang province (now Dong Thap province) was started on July 26, 2025.
As of March 11, 2026, the items of the project have been implemented including: installation of tower crane foundations of buildings N5, N6; mass pile construction of building N6; construction of floor beams on the 3rd floor of building N5; construction of foundations of building N4; construction of rough beams on the 8th floor of building N6.
Currently, the construction unit is continuing to implement items such as: construction of the rough part preparing to lift the roof of building N6; construction of floor girders on the 3rd floor of building N5; construction of foundation of building N4; construction of floor girders on the 3rd floor of building N3 and building N4," Mr. Minh said.
According to Mr. Minh, the project is expected to be completed and handed over, put into use on July 20, 2027.
The Trade Union social housing project in Tien Giang province (now Dong Thap province) is built in Trung An ward (Dong Thap province). The scale of the housing area includes 4 8-story building blocks, with a total of 526 apartments. The total investment of the project is more than 520 billion VND.
