Technology promotes job change
Ms. Ban Thi Lien used to be an administrative - human resources staff for a technology corporation headquartered on Duy Tan street (Cau Giay ward, Hanoi).
In March 2025, she was notified by the group that she was in the area of considering personnel cuts with the reason "the basic part of work is automated". In August 2025, Ms. Lien was dismissed, receiving a severance allowance from the company. Losing her job at the age of 31, after 7 years of attachment, Ms. Lien said she was "both sad and worried because she didn't know how to start looking for a new job".
Not only are "desktop" workers like Ms. Lien facing the risk of losing their jobs, many jobs that require unskilled labor are also gradually being replaced by machines and automation. Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh (from Tho Xuan commune, Thanh Hoa) is a CNC cutting machine operator for a company in Yen Nghia industrial cluster (Ha Dong ward, Hanoi).
According to Mr. Sinh, he joined the company as a mechanical assistant worker from 2017. After 2 years, he was sent to study to improve his skills and was in charge of operating a cutting machine, starting salary from 5 million VND, in 2025 it was 13 million VND. In November 2025, Mr. Sinh was informed of his resignation because his work had been automated, and computers were fully in charge.
Losing his job, Mr. Sinh is struggling to find a new job. Up to now, he has not found a job that matches his accumulated experience. "If by the end of March 2026 I still cannot find a job, I will return to my hometown and use some of the savings invested in domestic animal husbandry," Mr. Sinh shared.
In recent years, the labor market is undergoing rapid changes under the impact of technology, digital transformation and sustainable development trends. One of the biggest factors impacting the labor market in the coming time is the development of technology, especially artificial intelligence, automation and big data. These technologies help businesses improve productivity and optimize production processes, but also change the way people work.
Increasingly flexible job models
Along with digital transformation, many new fields are forming and creating jobs that previously did not exist. Positions such as data experts, artificial intelligence engineers, cybersecurity experts, digital marketing experts or digital content managers are increasingly popular.
In addition, the trend of sustainable development and green economy also opens up many job opportunities in fields such as renewable energy, environmental management, circular economy or sustainable development consulting. Jobs related to emission management, environmental impact assessment and implementation of green production solutions are forecast to increase rapidly.
The labor market in the future will become increasingly diverse with many occupations combining technology, management and creativity. In the context of rapidly changing jobs, workers in addition to expertise also need many new skills such as digital skills, analytical thinking, continuous learning ability and working with technology. In addition, soft skills such as communication, teamwork, creative thinking and problem solving are also increasingly valued," said Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment.
Also according to Mr. Trung, another notable trend of the labor market by 2030 is the increase in flexible forms of work. Remote work, project work, freelance work or participating in online job platforms are increasingly popular, especially in industries related to technology and creative services. The development of the internet and digital platforms allows workers to work for many businesses or customers in different countries without having to travel. This helps expand job opportunities but also creates a greater competitive environment in the labor market.
For businesses, flexible working models help reduce operating costs and access more diverse human resources. However, managing a scattered workforce also requires new management methods.
The labor market by 2030 is forecast to have many opportunities but also many challenges. Technology, digital transformation and sustainable development will continue to reshape the job structure and skill requirements of workers," Mr. Trung emphasized.
