According to statistics, in 2020, Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks had more than 33,000 workers. By September 2024, this number had increased to 62,000 workers. However, an urgent problem that is worrying many workers is that their housing system is still lacking and not receiving due attention.
In large industrial parks such as Dung Quat Economic Zone (Binh Son District), VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial Park and Tinh Phong Industrial Park (Son Tinh District), where tens of thousands of workers are concentrated, housing issues are becoming increasingly urgent. Most workers have to rent cramped, damp rooms at expensive prices. Many people have to face the scene of going in the morning and afternoon, traveling dozens of kilometers a day because they cannot afford to rent a house near their workplace.
In Tinh Phong commune, boarding houses have sprung up to serve the needs of workers working in industrial parks. However, the area of the rooms is often very small, just enough for a mattress, a gas stove and a bathroom. The rental price ranges from 800,000 to 1,500,000 VND per month, causing many workers to struggle.

Mr. Dinh Van Theo, residing in Son Ky commune, Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province, shared: My wife and I have been working as workers in VSIP Industrial Park for 6 years. A modest salary is just enough to raise children and cover daily living expenses. Therefore, the dream of having a social housing unit to buy at a preferential price is the wish of most workers like us.
According to the assessment of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, the demand for social housing in this province is very large. However, up to now, no social housing projects have been implemented. The main reason is that investors have to pay for all costs of building technical infrastructure themselves, causing the total project cost to increase. This causes social housing prices to increase, beyond the affordability of low-income people, thereby reducing attraction for businesses.
To solve this problem, Quang Ngai aims to build 6,300 social housing units, of which 1,500 units will be completed in the 2022-2025 period and 4,800 units in the 2026-2030 period. The provincial government plans to support each project with a maximum of 10 billion VND to build infrastructure and 100% of site clearance costs.
Recently, on March 14, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province worked with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on the implementation of a trade union social housing project in this province. The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has agreed to propose a location in Tinh Phong commune, Son Tinh district to expand the investment area for the trade union institution project, with a scale of about 4.05 hectares (including a previously approved land area of about 2.049 hectares).
At the meeting, Mr. Le Van Nghia, member of the Presidium, Head of the Trade Union Institution Project Management Board (Vietnam General Confederation of Labor) said that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor proposed that the Provincial People's Committee allocate a part of land in the approved project area to build social housing, meeting the rental needs of workers and laborers. The total land area is expected to be about 2 hectares, with the goal of building 750 apartments, garages, a flower garden system and other technical infrastructure works. It is expected that the number of residents here will reach 2,500 people, with a total investment of about 640 billion VND.
This project not only brings hope to a stable home for thousands of workers, but also contributes to creating positive changes in the lives of workers who are day and night contributing to the development of Quang Ngai province.
