Application for one-time allowance and funeral allowance

Quỳnh Chi |

If a person receiving a monthly allowance dies, his relatives can apply for a one-time allowance and a funeral allowance.

People who receive monthly allowances are those who have reached retirement age but have not paid social insurance for enough years to receive a pension, then they can choose to receive monthly allowances.

In case the beneficiary receives a short-term subsidy and then dies, the relatives can prepare an application for a one-time subsidy and a funeral subsidy. This is a content implemented from July 1, 2025, based on Decree 158/2025/ND-CP (detailed regulations and instructions for implementing a number of articles of the Law on Social Insurance (SI) on compulsory social insurance).

The application for benefits includes: Certificate of death or excerpt of the death certificate or a copy of the death certificate or a copy of the court's decision to declare him/her dead; statement of relatives according to the form issued by Vietnam Social Insurance.

Relatives of the beneficiary must submit this dossier within 90 days from the date of death of the monthly beneficiary.

The one-time allowance is calculated by multiplying the number of months not yet received by the monthly allowance that the employee is receiving before death.

In addition, employees who are receiving monthly allowances in one of the following cases when they die will receive a single funeral allowance (equal to 10 times the reference level): Having paid compulsory social insurance for 12 months or more; having paid voluntary social insurance for 60 months or more; having paid voluntary social insurance and compulsory social insurance for 60 months or more.
