Building a house - building hope
In mid-June, the atmosphere in the new house of Ms. Tu Thi Hoa Mo (Dong Hoi City Medical Center, Quang Binh Province) is much more bustling and warm. Ms. Mo raised 2 young children alone after her husband passed away from a serious illness. After many years of living in a seriously degraded level 4 house, she finally had a solid home to shelter her from, thanks to the support of the Trade Union organization.
Along with Ms. Mo, 3 other union members of the Quang Binh Health Sector, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Bo Trach District Medical Center), Ms. Tran Thi Hoi (Quang Ninh District General Hospital) and Mr. Cao Ngoc Tam (Minh Hoa District Medical Center) have also just been handed over the "Union Shelter" house with a total support amount of 160 million VND from the Provincial Trade Union Social Fund.
Ms. Tu Thi Hoa Mo emotionally shared: I have gone through days when I felt like there was no way out, raising my two children alone in a makeshift, dilapidated house. Every rainy season is an uncertain time. Now that I have a new house supported by the Union, I feel like I have lost the biggest burden of my life. Not only a place to live, this is a place for my mother and I to live safely, to start over with faith".
Each shelter is built as a commitment that no one is left behind.
More than 2.8 billion VND for 80 shelters in just 6 months
Not only the health sector, in the first 6 months of 2025, the Quang Binh Provincial Federation of Labor supported the construction and repair of a total of 80 "Union Shelters" for workers in difficult circumstances across the province, with a total cost of more than 2.8 billion VND. This is the result of the synchronous mobilization of resources, the cooperation of trade unions at all levels and the sharing of the business community.
Talking about the effectiveness of the program, Ms. Tran Thi Hoi choked up: "Without the Trade Union, I don't know how long I would dare to dream of owning a house like this. Every time it rains, I don't have to worry about splashed water or leaking roofs, so my children can study with peace of mind."
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan - President of the Quang Binh Provincial Federation of Labor - emphasized: "We consider each house built not only as material support but also a way to nurture the trust and hope of life for workers. When they have a stable place to live, they will be more motivated to stick with their job, contribute and overcome difficulties.
According to Ms. Lan, Quang Binh is a province with many remote areas, where workers have to struggle to make a living in poor conditions. Programs such as "Union Shelter" are tools for the Union to fulfill its role of protecting, caring for, and accompanying workers in a practical and humane way.
Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan affirmed: We do not set a goal as just a number, but as human values, the joy of union members who once thought that the dream of settling down was a distant dream. From today's warmth, they can be more steadfast in tomorrow's life".
