Aspirations and wills of workers in building the Fatherland

Over the past 80 years, the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union have made important contributions to the struggle for independence and national construction.

Protecting and promoting the achievements of the August Revolution

The Vietnam Workers' Group (GCCN VN) was born and developed in conjunction with the colonial exploitation process of French colonialism in the late 19th century.

Before the French colonialists launched the invasion, Vietnamese society was still a feudal society with two basic classes: feudal landlords and farmers; maintaining a backward economy based on small-scale agricultural production as the main, industrial and service economic basis not developed.

After the invasion and settlement was basically completed, the French colonialists immediately started exploiting the site for the first time with a scale expanding to the whole country. Breweries, fabric factories, electricity and water factories, railway factories, mines, rubber plantations, coffee factories... were born one after another and along with that the first team of Vietnamese workers was formed. They are farmers whose land has been stripped of, or manual craftsmen whose labor has been forced to work in French capitalist enterprises.

According to statistics before the first world war, the total number of Vietnamese workers was about 10,000 people, mainly concentrated in some major cities such as Hanoi, Saigon - Cho Lon, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh mining area...

Under the leadership of the Party, the Trade Union organization is truly the center of solidarity of Vietnamese workers. With over 20,000 people in 1945, union members became the core force that successfully carried out the August 1945 Revolution, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - the first Agricultural State in Southeast Asia.

In the first years of the country's independence, the Vietnam Trade Union and GCCN organizations made many important contributions to protecting and promoting the achievements of the August Revolution, actively participating in the first general election to elect the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. In the face of the French colonialists' renewed Invasion of our country, the capital's martyrs, the core of whom were workers, fought with a brave and brave spirit. Performing the task of both resistance and national defense, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has organized a campaign for employees to focus on building factories, workshops, and producing weapons and military equipment; overcoming difficulties, enthusiastically competing for labor to serve the resistance.

Vietnam Trade Union, Vietnam GCCN has continuously grown in both quantity and quality, present in all industries and economic sectors, and is an important force, leading the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.

In reality, the role and historical mission of the working class, glorious traditions and great contributions of the GCCN and the Vietnam Trade Union during the country's revolutionary stages under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam have been affirmed.

Being a key part when the country enters a new era

Entering the digital transformation phase, green economy and global value chain, the set goals are higher. That is to build a team of skilled - technological - disciplined workers. In 2024 alone, there will be more than 123 thousand initiatives and nearly 3,000 creative projects implemented in practice. In particular, the "1 million initiatives" program launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2022 has doubled the target, bringing more than VND33,000 billion in value. These figures have affirmed the desire of workers to contribute their intelligence and strength to the country.

Recently, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized the National "Creative Labor Day 2025" Program to honor the spirit of innovation, creativity and the aspiration to contribute of tens of millions of union members, employees and workers in the cause of building a strong and prosperous Vietnam. This is a practical action in response to the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; demonstrating the determination of union members, workers and trade union organizations to accompany the whole country, striving to achieve the socio-economic growth target of over 8% in 2025, creating momentum for double-digit growth in the period of 2026 - 2030.

Reality shows that the GCCN and the Vietnam Trade Union have continuously grown and matured, actively contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, especially in the period of innovation and international integration. In recent years, the emulation movement "Good workers - Creative workers" launched by the Trade Union organization has truly become a strong driving force, arousing the spirit of innovation and the desire to contribute among the team of workers and laborers. "Good workers, Creative workers" is not only a slogan but has been deeply imbued with, becoming a regular, continuous and persistent activity of each union member and employee at the grassroots level.
