Removing difficulties for members to stay on the island
After nearly 1 hour by canoe to the island about 15km from Nha Trang city, union officials of Nha Trang City Labor Federation brought toys for the island's students and gifts for union members of Vinh Nguyen 2 Kindergarten working at 2 locations on Vung Ngan and Bich Dam islands.
Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet, Chairman of Nha Trang City Labor Federation, said that these are gifts according to the wishes of teachers and students at the school.
To have today's trip, before the new school year, the Labor Union organized a survey of the actual working needs of union members on islands far from the city. In addition to the lack of facilities and working conditions on remote islands with storms, the biggest difficulty for female teachers is limited means of transportation by boat, and expensive water costs...
According to the teachers, to maintain classes on Bich Dam Island, teachers have to follow civilian ships from Monday to Saturday to return to shore. During the stormy season, when ships cannot travel, the teachers stay on the island for a whole month before being able to return home.
Similar to Vung Ngan, with only 10 students, 2 teachers of Vinh Nguyen 2 Kindergarten still had to stay for a whole week without electricity. They also had to use fresh water very sparingly because each cubic meter of water here costs 170,000 VND/m3, and teachers had to pay to buy it.
Recently, the Nha Trang City Labor Federation has worked with relevant units to have a policy to partially support the transportation costs between the islands and the mainland to reduce the travel burden for union members (each trip by ferry costs 30,000 VND, and by canoe costs 300,000 VND/trip).
“Currently, the City Labor Union is also working with units to request free parking support for teachers going to the island. With the role of taking care of workers, the City Labor Union will continue to mobilize from many socialized sources to share some of the difficulties so that union members can feel secure staying on the island...” - Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet shared.
Effective coordination for mutual care
Ms. Le Thi Hong Minh - Chairman of the Trade Union of Vinh Nguyen 2 Kindergarten - shared: The items are solar light bulbs, pots, bowls... although small, they are very necessary and useful, a source of encouragement and warmth for the teachers on the island.
Promoting activities from the grassroots level, listening to the feedback of union members, recently, Nha Trang City Labor Federation organized a legal consultation day, signed a cooperation program with the Legal Consultation Center of Khanh Hoa Provincial Bar Association for the period 2024-2028 to provide free legal advice to support union members. At the same time, launched the Union Meal at more than 40 grassroots unions, bringing warm and quality meals to more than 2,800 union members and employees. Not just a simple meal, but through the meal, many sharing and understanding between members of the organization were revealed and resolved, thereby creating trust and attachment between union members and employees with the Union and the unit.
Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet believes that providing knowledge and addresses for union members to access when their rights are affected, not leaving union members alone, is also a way for the union to penetrate deeply into the hearts of union members.
Along with promoting long-term welfare programs for union members every year such as free health screening (2023), eco-tourism service experience benefits with Ba Ho Company Limited (2024)... is also an indirect way for the union to bring opportunities for relaxation and connection to union members. With suitable, attractive and meaningful welfare policies, it will contribute to improving the quality of life and work efficiency of union members, worthy of their support.
