Uncertain employment
More than 20 years working as a seafood industry worker in industrial parks, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai (born in 1984) is still always in a state of having to spend sparingly. His main job is seafood processing, and his income depends heavily on the number of orders from businesses.
According to him, there were times when the income reached more than 10 million VND per month, but it was not always stable. When the factory had few orders, working hours decreased, and income also decreased, with some months only working half the time.
I have been a worker for many years, but in general my income is unstable, if I have a job, I work a lot, if I don't have a job, my income decreases" - he said.
After many years of working far from home, Mr. Hai returned to Can Tho to live and continued to look for jobs in the seafood industry. Despite his experience, he believes that finding a stable job with sufficient income is still not easy. Currently, his family still rents a room in O Mon ward. For him, the biggest wish after many years of working as a worker is to be able to accumulate enough money to buy a small piece of land and build a stable house for his wife and children.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tinh also worked as a worker at a business for more than 1 year before deciding to quit because his income was not enough to cover living expenses.
The salary is about 5-6 million VND per month, minus rent and food, there is almost no surplus" - Mr. Tinh said. After leaving the factory at the end of last year, he switched to freelance jobs in the locality, but his income is still precarious.
According to Mr. Tinh, at the age of nearly 40, finding a suitable job is also difficult.
Many places where I want to work, they don't accept because of my age, and the places that accept, the job or income are not suitable" - he shared.
The stories of workers like Mr. Hai or Mr. Tinh show that when returning to their hometowns, not everyone can easily find a stable job, even though they have many years of experience working in factories.
Attracting skilled workers
At TKG Taekwang Can Tho Co., Ltd. (Can Tho City), a representative of the Recruitment and Training Department said that from the beginning of the year to now, the unit has recruited over 750 new workers. Among those recruited, workers returning home from other provinces and cities account for about 15%.
Notably, the quality of new human resources after Tet is considered stable, especially workers aged 18-20 account for 30%, these are newcomers to the labor market, so they are easy to train and have the ability to learn quickly.
Promoting the acceleration of recruitment at the beginning of the year, Indian Ocean One Member Limited Company (Can Tho City) is launching many policies to attract personnel, especially skilled workers.
“From after Tet until now, the company has continuously recruited about 100 new personnel. However, the fillet and styling department with ready-made skills is currently the most rare and difficult to recruit. Therefore, in addition to attractive income, we are promoting recruitment and introduction allowances, full-time, diligent (depending on the time and department) to attract personnel, especially local forces returning home after Tet” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Bang Tuyen - Head of Human Resources Department of the Company - informed.
In Vinh Long province, Lefaso Tra Vinh Industrial Production and Investment Joint Stock Company also highly appreciated the quality of returning human resources.
Ms. Tran Thi Thone - Head of Human Resources Management Department cum Vice President of the Company's Grassroots Trade Union - shared: "The repatriated force is mostly skilled workers with good quality. Businesses really need these personnel to improve work productivity. Accordingly, if the company and the trade union have close coordination, increasingly optimizing care policies and welfare regimes, this will definitely be an opportunity to compete to attract repatriated workers.
