Trade union press is a creativity in developing the Vietnamese workers' movement
deeply recognizing the importance of the press and revolutionary activities, Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh has used the press, especially the Red Cross Society press, in propagating and mobilizing workers to unite in the struggle of the class; in fostering theories and enriching the practice of trade union activities; connecting with the international workers' movement; making sharp weapons of struggle in the field of ideology.
On August 14, 1929, comrade Nguyen Duc Canh launched a newspaper named Lao Dong. In the first 4 issues, the newspaper called on workers and laborers of factories, mines, mines, and plantations to participate in organizing the Congress, unite in fighting against capitalists and imperials; disseminate about revolutionary and movementist guidelines, the historical role and mission of workers and boatmen in the work of saving water; criticize the mistaken arguments of the Vietnam National Party organization on the water rescue force; clearly state the responsibility and path to liberate the working class as "oneelf" and "in the congress": "Workers who want to be liberated must do it themselves" and: "To the boatmen who want to reclaim their rights must join the congress".
With this strong attraction and through many different routes and delivery methods, Lao Dong Newspaper has been present in cities, industrial centers, many factories, mines, and filling plantations in important political and economic areas such as Hanoi, Saigon, Hai Phong, Vinh - Ben Thuy, Quang Ninh, contributing to encouraging and promoting the workers' movement.
Not only that, Lao Dong Newspaper is also sent to France, China, and the Soviet Union as a testament to the appearance of the Red Trade Union in Indochina following the trend of organizing the Red Trade Union International; as an affirmation of the ideological and organizational connection between the workers' movement, the Red Trade Union of Indochina with the workers' movement, and the International Red Trade Union.
On July 28, 1929, the first Congress of the Bac Ky General Confederation of Labor issued a resolution to publish a magazine as a training agency for members. Cong So Do is one of the first theoretical journals of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press. The decision to establish the Red Festival Magazine, which until now only preserves the first two issues, is of great significance, and can be considered one of the first journals with theoretical research in the history of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press.
Lao Dong Newspaper appeared, quickly spreading, becoming a fulcrum in the workers' struggle movement, a creativity in the way of operation of the Bac Ky Red Trade Union, making the Red Trade Union truly attractive to workers. Red Festival Magazine was born with the task of training, raising awareness and theoretical qualifications of the staff, reflecting the comprehensive preparation and long-term, sustainable development vision of the Red Festival of Bac Ky organized by comrade Nguyen Duc Canh.
Reflecting the vivid spirit of "fearing death" of workers when the Fatherland needs
At turning points, the nature of the working class is expressed very vibrantly and the Trade Union organization always stands side by side with the workers. On the night of September 22, 1945, the French colonialists relied on the British army to attack the brains of the revolutionary government in Saigon, starting the second war of invasion of Vietnam. During this time, the Saigon - Cho Lon surrounding to block the French advance was carried out by armed workers' teams, although the weapons were very rudimentary and the leadership was largely taken over by members of the Communist Party and cadres of the Southern General Confederation of Labor.
From the early days of the resistance war, the Southern General Confederation of Labor has paid great attention to propaganda and mobilization work. Comrade Ly Chinh Thang - General Secretary of the Southern General Confederation of Labor issued a Trade Union newspaper (on October 9, 1945, the first Trade Union newspaper issue was issued, the editing committee had 3 people, the printing house was located on the cover of Thu Duc rubber forest). Each Trade Union periodical published 5,000 - 6,000 copies, three days a period. After issuing 5 issues, the newspaper was transferred to An Phu Dong (Go Vap) and changed its name to Cam Tu newspaper. Cam Tu Newspaper, published 6 to 7 issues a month, each issue about 4,000 issues, mainly for circulation in the inner city.
Cam Tu Newspaper has taken on the task of guiding information; encouraging the working class and people of Saigon - Cho Lon to fight against the enemy to save the country; at the same time, it has sharply opposed the reactionary propaganda of Phuc Hung, Tuong Lai, and Tieng Go newspapers that after occupying the city, the French colonialists published them publicly in Saigon. Despite the two attacks on the printing house, many soldiers sent out reports and fell on the roads leading to the city, but the Cam Tu newspaper still persistently published and circulated. The Cam Tu newspaper is also sent to the UK, France, and the US, each with 10 volumes to introduce the heroic spirit of our people. Each month, the money from selling newspapers is over 130,000 VND, this amount is used to support armed trade union units.
Inheriting the Cam Tu newspaper, in the last 6 months of 1965, the Workers newspaper was published in 2 languages (Vietnamese and Chinese), half a month in a period, each period had 1,500 - 2,000 copies. Next was the Workers' Liberation newspaper and later the Lao Dong People's newspaper, both founded by the Trade Union organization. The Trade Union press is not only the voice but also the heart of the Trade Union organization that always accompanies the workers.

In a multi-component economy, ensuring the implementation of legitimate rights according to State regulations is not easy, so the " benefits" gained from negotiation are even more difficult. The trade union press, especially Lao Dong Newspaper, has chosen the goal of being the number 1 newspaper in protecting the legitimate rights of workers and has persistently implemented it for many decades.
That is to accompany in the process of protecting the legitimate rights of workers. Many union officials at all levels seem to feel warmed when having Lao Dong Newspaper always stand side by side on this hot front, sometimes very harsh.
To recognize the worthy position of workers in the production and business process, sustainable development of quality human resources, building harmonious, stable, progressive and responsible labor relations with the State as the culture of enterprises, Lao Dong Newspaper has initiated and proposed the Ranking Board and the Enterprise Award for Workers. The active participation of enterprises and the satisfaction of many employees are proof of the companionship for the common goals of entities in labor relations. This is a necessary solution to contribute to social progress.

Trade union activities must always be innovative to adapt to social development. During this process, Lao Dong Newspaper, Lao Dong Magazine - Trade Union (formerly known as Red Festival Magazine) made very valuable contributions. Lao Dong Newspaper laid the foundation for "Tet Sum Vay" to spread nationwide in the first years; actively trained journalism for provincial, municipal and central trade union officials when there was a policy to upgrade the trade union website... Lao Dong - Trade Union Magazine conducted a campaign "Union beauty" to spread meaningful union activities; coordinated with a number of industrial park trade unions to build a fanpage system to serve trade union communication to strengthen the connection between grassroots trade unions and union members and workers.
The urgent requirement in the current period is that trade unions at the central, provincial and industry levels get closer to union members, focusing on improving the quality of grassroots trade unions; effectively solving the "three no's" of grassroots trade unions: No office to store union documents, no timely professional training for union staff, not having much urgent information to orient union members and workers. Therefore, the trade union press must continue to promote the achieved achievements and uphold its responsibility to the trade union organization, union members and workers.
The richness, practicality, and vitality of the Trade Union organization are mainly at the grassroots level. On the contrary, grassroots trade unions also need practical experience from well-performing units. Therefore, trade union journalism needs to truly be a forum for trade union activities at the grassroots level, synthesizing necessary information and introducing convincing experiences of success. At the same time, it will explain in detail the work of trade unions, suggest what trade unions need to do to improve the consistency in trade union activities, bringing more benefits to union members and workers.

In the context of having a lot of multidimensional information, even bad and toxic information, confusing information, etc., the trade union press needs to become an accurate information channel, a support for union members and workers to choose the opposite, contributing to healthy the information market, minimizing damage to union members and workers.
Over the past century, although there have been ups and downs, trade union journalism has been both a separate flow, fully characterized by the trade union organization, and contributed to enriching the Vietnam Revolutionary Press. This has produced many generations of reporters such as union officials who hold pens and turn pen codes into weapons of war, reviving the Vietnam Trade Union organization. The trade union press continues its mission of protecting the " rights" of poor workers and laborers, being an extension of the trade union organization and the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
