Businesses and workers are happy
Ms. Trieu Thi Nghien - head of a textile cooperative in Trieu Khuc village, Tan Trieu commune (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi) said that for the past 10 years, her cooperative has had the tradition of giving lucky money to workers on the first day of work after the Lunar New Year holiday.
“I remember clearly, on the 2014 Lunar New Year, the cooperative had a total of 27 employees. On the 6th day of the Lunar New Year, I gave each employee 200,000 VND as lucky money. By the 2024 Lunar New Year, the number of employees had increased to 123 in some departments. At the first meeting of the year with the department representatives, I gave lucky money to each employee. The department head would divide it among each employee, at the rate of 1 million VND/person. It is expected that on the 6th day of the Lunar New Year this year, when everyone returns to work, we will continue to give lucky money to each employee, 1 million VND/person,” said Ms. Nghien.
According to Ms. Nghien, both business owners and employees understand that the lucky money is also money from the bonus fund that has been balanced, but on the first day of work of the year, everyone is excited to receive the money.
Ms. Truong Thi Nhai is an accountant for a company specializing in supplying raw materials to Japanese restaurants in Hanoi. Having worked for the company for 5 years, every year Ms. Nhai receives 2 million VND as a lucky money on the first day of work after the Lunar New Year holiday.
“Our accounting department gets the highest lucky money, 2 million VND/person; the sales and administrative departments get 1 million VND/person. On the first day of the new year, the director will give lucky money to each department, everyone is happy with this amount of money. Honestly, only those who have unexpected work or are sick do not go to work as scheduled, the rest of us make an appointment to come to the company on the first day of the new year to receive lucky money, have a party... The money is like motivation for us to try harder for a year of challenging work", Ms. Nhai shared.
More commitment to the company
Giving lucky money to employees not only shows the company's concern for employees but is also an opportunity to create solidarity between colleagues, between units and departments within the company.
Mr. Le Van Trung is an employee of a Honda Vietnam sales agency in Ha Dong district (Hanoi). Mr. Trung said that for many years now, the New Year's lucky money has always brought double joy to employees.
“We are happy to receive the company’s attention, and even happier is that after raising our glasses to celebrate the new year, the departments pool their lucky money for the first working day party. Some years we invite each other to go to a restaurant near our workplace, and other years we order food to eat at the company. The feasts are not many, but they become an opportunity for colleagues in the same company to bond and share, because sometimes we work in different departments and don’t have the chance to chat all year long,” Trung shared.
Ms. Bui Thi Tu is currently the union chairwoman of a private enterprise located in Nam Tu Liem district (Hanoi). According to Ms. Tu, the leaders of the enterprise where she works always discuss with the union about the bonus level, the time of Tet bonus as well as the lucky money for employees at the beginning of the year.
“Based on the production and business situation, my company rewards from 300,000 VND/person to the highest level of 1 million VND/person at the beginning of the new year. The company through the union gives lucky money to employees, everyone is excited, feels the concern of the enterprise, and trusts the union organization more. We are very satisfied because this clever integration brings joy and dual benefits: showing the concern of the enterprise for the employees; showing the role of the union organization in the enterprise”, Ms. Tu said.
