More than 56,000 workers from Phu Yen return home
Ms. Le Thi Diem My (Tuy An district, Phu Yen province) used to work at a garment factory in Binh Duong province. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her job was unstable, so Ms. My chose to quit her job and return to her hometown to work as a freelancer.
Recently, Phu Yen Employment Service Center organized a job fair in Tuy An, Ms. My came to look for a stable job opportunity at a garment company with a salary of about 6 million VND/month. Compared to the average income of 10 million VND/month when working as a garment worker in Binh Duong, Ms. My accepted to work with a lower income but was close to her family, without having to spend more on accommodation and travel costs when working far away.
According to statistics from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Phu Yen province, during the 2021 epidemic, more than 56,000 workers of Phu Yen returned from the southern provinces and cities. To solve the labor surplus at that time, Phu Yen province promoted the connection between labor supply and demand through the activities of the Job Introduction Service Centers to review and count the number of workers in need of jobs in their localities to soon have support plans. Up to now, the majority of workers have found jobs, some have chosen to stay in their hometowns to work.
Currently, the demand for labor recruitment in Phu Yen is from 500 to 1,000 jobs per month. An Hung Joint Stock Company needs 350 workers by the end of 2024 and plans to recruit 1,500 skilled sewing workers in 2025...
Ms. Ngo Hoang Vy - Vice President in charge of Phu Yen Economic Zone (EZ) Trade Union - said: Along with caring solutions, recently Phu Yen Economic Zone (EZ) Trade Union has connected businesses with labor shortages to find local labor sources.
Labor migration, businesses in Da Nang face difficulties
If Phu Yen is the "return destination" for many workers in the South, Da Nang - the place with the most industrial parks in the Central region - is the departure point for many workers from Quang Nam and the North Central provinces.
Ms. Loan, from Thang Binh district, Quang Nam, has been working as a worker in Hoa Cam Industrial Park in Da Nang for more than 10 years.
Recently, she and her husband decided to pay for the rental house and move back to their hometown to live and find a job because they could not feel secure with their two sons living with their grandparents in the countryside and growing up day by day.
At the "Connecting Enterprises" Forum jointly organized by the Management Board of High-Tech Parks and Industrial Parks, Lao Dong Newspaper, and the Da Nang City Labor Federation on October 9, many enterprises "called for help" from the city for solutions because it is very difficult to recruit workers, especially unskilled workers.
“In 2024, Daiwa Da Nang Co., Ltd. will increase its productivity by 30%, so we need to recruit 300 unskilled workers. However, Daiwa Da Nang Co., Ltd. still cannot recruit workers,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, Deputy Director of Daiwa Da Nang Co., Ltd.
610 businesses withdrew from the market
By the end of October 2024, Da Nang City had newly issued registration certificates to 347 enterprises, branches and representative offices, a decrease of 5.2% in the number of enterprises compared to the same period in 2023 (in the same period in 2023, there were 366 newly registered enterprises). The number of enterprises registering to temporarily suspend operations continued to increase by 9.8% over the same period. During the same period, the entire city of Da Nang had 610 enterprises, branches and representative offices completing dissolution procedures, an increase of 9.1% over the same period in 2023.
Not much impact on union development
Ms. Ngo Hoang Vy - Vice President in charge of the Phu Yen Economic Zone (EZ) Trade Union - said: In the first 10 months of 2024, the Phu Yen EZ Trade Union has developed nearly 1,500 union members and established 2 grassroots unions. According to Ms. Vy, the shift of labor from far to near does not have much impact on the development of union members in the industrial park. Almost 100% of workers working at enterprises in the industrial park are admitted to the Union organization.
