Practical from everyday needs
Workers' rest stop - Accompanying workers" is a new model, piloted by the Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union, Da Nang city.
Mr. Le Trong Nguyen - Chairman of Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union - explained: The model starts from the very ordinary needs of workers after working hours, preparing for shifts or on the journey to work and home.
At the "Workers' Rest Stop", workers are provided with many free amenities such as: Rest area, hammocks for rest, drinking water, first aid medicine cabinets, phone charging stations, wifi, fans, bookshelves and newspapers and legal documents. When necessary, workers are also supported with raincoats and some essential items.
Our work usually starts early in the morning and ends quite late. At noon, there are only 30 minutes of rest, so to save time, we all bring home-cooked meals. Therefore, having a place to rest, drink water, avoid sun and rain like this is very convenient. The model is simple but very practical for porters like us" - Mr. Nguyen Van Nen - member of the mobile porter team at Hoa Khanh Industrial Park - shared.
For Mr. Huynh Den, a driver, "Workers' Rest Stop" is a "trade union address" close to workers.
I regularly go into Hoa Khanh Industrial Park to pick up goods. At noon, I don't know where to go, I just sit under a tree. Now that there is such a stop, you can stop by to rest a bit, lie down in a hammock to read newspapers or learn about policies and laws. If there are issues about social insurance or the rights of workers, I will be consulted by Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union officials, one job is two goals" - he said.
Completing, replicating the model
A notable point of the "Workers' Stopover - Accompanying Workers" model is the application of information technology through QR codes. Just by scanning the code on the phone, workers can reflect and petition on the fanpage of Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union. This is an important information channel to help the Ward Trade Union promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of workers right from the grassroots level. From there, the Ward Trade Union proactively brings information, policies and services closer to union members and workers.
According to Mr. Le Trong Nguyen, this model is not only aimed at creating an additional resting place but more importantly, innovating care methods, bringing Trade Union activities closer to workers. "We identify this as a model that directly serves workers. Therefore, efficiency must be assessed from the convenience and satisfaction of workers. In the coming time, the Ward Trade Union will continue to listen to the opinions of union members and workers to add appropriate utilities, improve service quality and make the stopping point more and more practical" - he assessed.
Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union will continue to maintain free amenities; supplement first aid medicine cabinets, hammock systems, books, newspapers and legal documents; strengthen counseling on labor law, social insurance, health insurance, employment; improve the efficiency of receiving feedback via QR codes; and at the same time mobilize and connect resources to have more practical care activities for workers. The Ward Trade Union will also propose and recommend that the Da Nang City Labor Federation gradually expand the model in areas with many workers and laborers, especially residential areas, roads, areas with many businesses, workers' and informal laborers' boarding houses, and places with high rest demand.
Each stop can start from a small space, but behind it is the concern, responsibility and spirit of serving workers of the Trade Union organization. It is hoped that the model will be maintained, improved and replicated, which will contribute to bringing Trade Union activities closer to workers and laborers, contributing to caring for and building an increasingly strong working class.
