Not daring to take risks
Ms. Bui Ngoc Anh is a graphic designer at a private publishing house in Hoan Kiem ward, Hanoi.
Graduating from the University of Industrial Fine Arts in 2022 with an excellent degree, Ms. Ngoc Anh had many job options when graduating. Having collaborated with many units and businesses since she was a student, when working, Ms. Ngoc Anh was the "pet" of the design department because she was proficient in expertise and had the ability to work in a group smoothly.
With a family in Hanoi and a stable income since her second year of university, Ms. Ngoc Anh is not too attached to any job position. For that reason, 3 years since graduating from university, Ms. Ngoc Anh is working at a third company.
2 years ago, after each year's bonus, Ms. Ngoc Anh announced her retirement to find new job opportunities, also to satisfy her personal aspirations. However, this year, she no longer intends to change jobs after Tet.
I worked for a famous real estate company, a large media company and now a publisher. All the places I have worked in have given me wonderful experiences. In the past, I always wanted to challenge myself and satisfy myself with more difficult requirements, so every time I received the Tet bonus, I changed jobs. This year, when many close friends lost their jobs due to difficulties and disruptions, I decided not to change jobs anymore but to focus on the job position I am taking on, Ms. Ngoc Anh shared.
Not a worker with many job opportunities like Ms. Ngoc Anh, but Mr. Nguyen Dinh Manh (from Lac Thuy commune, Phu Tho province) also has 4 years of experience changing jobs.
Mr. Manh is a freelancer, after finishing grade 12 in school, he followed his friends in the commune to Hanoi to find a job. From security guards, soccer field staff, parking lot staff... he has all experienced it.
Mr. Manh said that the above jobs do not require any qualifications, just work hard, honestly have a job opportunity. In previous years, after receiving the salary and bonus for the last month of the year, Mr. Manh returned to his hometown to "celebrating Tet early". After the full moon of January, he and his friends went to Hanoi to find a job.
"This year, I decided not to change jobs because I saw many unskilled jobs around my area that made a lot of workers lose their jobs. At the parking lot and car care center where I work, since the beginning of October, the owner has asked anyone who wants to change jobs at the end of the year to notify early so that the company can proactively plan the arrangement of work. With a stable income and a stable accommodation, I am determined to stay, and the goal next year is to work while registering to study a vocational school to have better job opportunities, said Mr. Manh.
Many reasons why workers no longer want to change jobs
According to Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director of the Department of Employment - changing jobs to have jobs that are more suitable to the ability, capacity and conditions of oneself and one's family; have a better income; a better working environment... is the desire of many workers. However, workers today tend not to want to change jobs for many reasons. The biggest of these are concerns about the unstable job market, long-term stability, and the increase in mental health problems related to stress when changing jobs.
Instead of changing jobs, workers tend to focus on improving their skills at their current company, seeking attachment and carefully considering factors such as career path, working environment, and salary, said Mr. Trung.

Mr. Trung analyzed that currently, workers feel worried about not finding a new job or a new job that is not better than their current job, especially in the context of many economic uncertainties. Many workers, especially young workers, want to seek stability and long-term attachment instead of changing jobs too often, to avoid the situation of " modest" work at a new workplace. Not to mention, in the context of no guarantees, workers are afraid of changing jobs because they are afraid of arising mental health problems caused by job changes.
Mr. Trung also advised workers, instead of changing jobs, to invest in learning, improving skills and expertise to meet current job requirements, which also helps increase income and promotion opportunities.
In addition, it is necessary to clearly define career goals and find a job not only because of high salaries but also to suit preferences, values and long-term orientations.
"Before deciding to change jobs, workers should consider carefully. You wonder whether you should change jobs for a legitimate reason or just for temporary emotions and whether the job is really better. After answering those questions satisfactorily, you should decide to change jobs, Mr. Trung recommended.
