The scientific seminar "Current situation and solutions to improve the quality of social criticism work of trade union organizations in the new situation" was jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation and the University of Water Resources Trade Union on the afternoon of April 4 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Huynh Van Tuan - Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation's Professional Affairs Department - said that the Party's regulations and the State's laws have clearly stipulated the role and function of criticism of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, including the Vietnam Trade Union.
Article 17 of the 2024 Trade Union Law clearly stipulates the functions and rights of social criticism of the Trade Union, in which "The Trade Union has the right and responsibility to participate in giving opinions and social criticism on draft legal documents, planning, plans, programs, projects and proposals of state agencies directly related to the rights and interests of union members and workers.
The Trade Union is responsible for proposing the content and conducting social criticism according to the provisions of the Law of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and other relevant legal provisions".
This clearly demonstrates the role and importance of the social criticism function of trade unions.
Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Huyen - Thuy Loi University - said that promoting the critical role of trade unions not only plays an important role in protecting the rights of workers but also contributes to the sustainable development of society.
Ms. Le Thi Le Huyen - Vice President of the Trade Union of Export Processing and Industrial Zones of Ho Chi Minh City - shared that many important information on official information channels is still slow compared to social networks, leading to union officials slowly re-examining unofficial information on social networks affecting the rights of union members and workers.

Mr. Huynh Vinh Lam - Vice Chairman of the District 1 Labor Federation, Ho Chi Minh City - said that the District Labor Federation was invited to participate in social criticism on many issues in the district and city; the criticisms of the trade union organization have made practical contributions to the issues that were discussed, helping the issues that were discussed to be closer to reality.
Mr. Lam also pointed out the reality that many union officials have been transferred from other fields, many people are quickly transferred to other fields, so sometimes there is a lack of understanding and knowledge in the field that is invited for criticism. At the same time, there is a lack of clear and specific regulations and processes in the social criticism of trade unions.
Mr. Lam suggested that it is necessary to improve the mechanism, policies, and social criticism process of the trade union organization and improve the skills and qualifications of trade union officials in social criticism, focusing on improving listening, communication, debate, and persuasion skills for trade union officials to avoid cases where they only follow existing experience and knowledge.
Along with that, it is necessary to improve the skills of applying digital technology and AI in social criticism for trade union officials.
