Improving occupational safety and hygiene in the new situation
During the Workers' Month - Month of Action on occupational safety and health in 2025, the Trade Unions at all levels of Quang Tri province coordinated with competent authorities to organize supervision and inspection of the implementation of labor laws and occupational safety and health work at enterprises. The Quang Tri Provincial Trade Union has participated in inspections and supervision at many enterprises, thereby promptly detecting and recommending to overcome limitations and shortcomings in the implementation of labor laws and ensuring occupational safety and health of the unit.
Mr. Nguyen The Lap - Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial Federation of Labor - said that he had organized the signing of a commitment to compete in ensuring occupational safety and health, the "Green-Clean-Beautiful, occupational safety and health assurance" movement at agencies, units, and enterprises; organized competitions, legal day activities, and visual propaganda through " work protection corner"...
During the month, trade unions at all levels organized classes to disseminate labor laws and the Labor Safety Law; the Provincial Federation of Labor combined to organize training courses on labor safety for grassroots trade union officials in the enterprise sector. Trade unions at all levels focus on coordinating the organization of reproductive health check-ups, consultations, and periodic health check-ups for employees in enterprises. As a result, thousands of union members and workers have received health check-ups, consultations, and free medicine...
The Provincial Federation of Labor has actively participated in inspection, examination and supervision teams on compliance with occupational safety and health laws at enterprises in the area. Through the inspection, businesses have been promptly reminded and instructed to strictly comply with regulations on occupational safety and health, and take measures to control risk factors for occupational accidents and diseases.
Overcoming shortcomings, determined to reduce work-related accidents
Implementing the direction from the Central Government, Quang Tri province has issued many specific plans and programs to widely implement occupational safety and health work throughout the area. The departments and functional branches such as the Department of Home Affairs, Health, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Environment have closely coordinated with localities, trade union organizations, unions... to organize propaganda, training, inspection, supervision and raise awareness for both employees and employers.
Every year, the Month of Action on occupational safety and health is organized enthusiastically in many diverse forms, many enterprises in industrial production, processing, construction, mining... have proactively invested in protective equipment, warning systems, safe working procedures and organized periodic health check-ups for workers.
However, besides positive results, there are still many shortcomings in occupational safety and health work. Although the number of work-related accidents tends to decrease, they still occur, causing serious damage to people and property. The main reason comes from the limited compliance of a part of employers, many establishments have not organized periodic training or made risk prevention plans. Workers, especially in heavy and toxic industries, are still subjective and lack accident prevention skills. The situation of using seasonal workers without contracts, without protective equipment, and without health check-ups is still quite common.
Although occupational safety and health inspection and examination activities have been strengthened, their regularity and effectiveness are still not high. Some localities lack full-time staff, sanctions are not enough to deter, and statistics and labor environment monitoring are still lacking in sync.
To overcome this situation, the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee has issued plans, setting a target of reducing at least 4% of the number of fatal work accidents each year; increasing the number of people receiving vocational medical examination and facilities receiving labor environment monitoring by 5%.
