From reality to digital initiative
In the management and operation of the power grid, drawing and updating drawings is an important step, but previously it took a lot of time. With a volume of more than 11,000 transformer substations, each substation has dozens of power poles and hundreds of customers, the implementer may take several days to complete 1 substation drawing using AutoCAD, from drawing, updating information to wiring. Meanwhile, the cost of software copyright is also quite high, about 30 million VND per year for a computer.
Difficulties are not only in time. Customer data always fluctuates when there are new customers, customers stop using electricity or change information. Each change needs to be updated to the drawing, which is both laborious and sets the requirement for data synchronization between systems. From that reality, Mr. Thien and his colleagues have jointly built "GPS coordinate conversion software to 2D drawing", aiming to reduce manual operations, save time and improve work efficiency for employees. To verify operational capacity, the group tested the software on dozens of devices with many different versions. Mr. Thien also directly went to the scene with workers to check the software in weak signal areas, even in places without phone signal.
Shorten time, improve efficiency
After the testing and adjustment process, the clearest effect of the software lies in its ability to shorten the drawing time. If previously, a drawing of about 50 pillars and 500 customers using AutoCAD could take about 2 days, now the process of converting GPS data to 2D drawings only takes about 30 seconds.
Not only faster, GPS data also helps drawings reflect more closely the actual location of the power grid and customers. This is an important difference compared to drawings made in estimated proportions.
From the data collected in the field, the software can also support directions to customer locations, combined with actual images, serving production and business and operation management. Data can also support geographical location assessment to propose station separation or detect cases where customers are installed in the wrong station.
For an idea from practical work to become an application solution, Mr. Thien believes that the companionship of the leaders of Can Tho City Power Company and the Trade Union also plays an important role.
The recognition of the company and the trade union is not only a motivation for a specific initiative but also opens up a new approach to work: From daily inadequacies, workers can proactively find technological solutions, reduce manual operations and gradually improve production efficiency" - Mr. Thien expressed.
Mr. Le Huynh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Grassroots Trade Union (CĐCS) of Can Tho City Power Company - said that in 2025, Can Tho City Power Company organized 4 rounds of review and recognition of 32 initiatives, of which 8 initiatives were recognized at the Corporation level.
According to Mr. Huynh, putting initiatives into application not only creates efficiency for businesses but also helps reduce time, effort and operations for workers.
