Live in a new, spacious house thanks to the union
The small house of Ms. Huynh Thi Minh Nguyet in the alley on Le Dinh Can Street, Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City was much happier last weekend when she welcomed a group of guests to hand over the house in the program of giving away 96 "Union Shelters" initiated by the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation.
Ms. Nguyet just told that in 2015, her younger sister passed away from a terrible cancer, and then her brother-in-law remarried, leaving her with a young niece.
Feeling sorry for her grandchild, she had to quit her job and take in extra work at home so that the two of them could earn a living and have time to take the grandchild to school. Every day, she took in work to sew, and on a good day, she earned 200,000-250,000 VND, and on a bad day, she earned more than 100,000 VND, just enough for the two of them to live on.
Living in a dilapidated house for a long time, due to the low floor, every time it rained, water leaked from the roof and water from the street flooded, greatly affecting the lives of the two of them. A chance came when Ms. Nguyet was put on the list by the local government to have her house repaired under the “Union Shelter” program.
“Until now, I still think I am dreaming, never expecting that one day I will be living in a new, spacious house, no longer having to worry about flooding during rainy days. I am truly happy and grateful to the Vietnam Trade Union and the authorities at all levels for helping my family have a better life,” Ms. Nguyet said emotionally.
Ms. Nguyet is a typical example who has had complete happiness during these Tet holidays thanks to the program of building "Union Shelter".
So that everyone can have Tet, no one is left behind
Mr. Vo Khac Thai - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation - said that in order to actively respond to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" launched by the Prime Minister and to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025); 50 years of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on September 23, 2024, at the Nga Ba Giong Historical Site, Hoc Mon District, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation launched the construction of 95 "Union Shelters" to give to union members, workers, and poor households with difficult housing circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City.
After a period of mobilization, with the support of a number of businesses, CEP Microfinance Organization and a large number of union members and employees, 96 "Union Shelters" have been basically completed (one more than planned - PV) with a total amount of nearly 6 billion VND.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union has completed handing over the "Trade Union Shelters" to union members, workers, and poor households with difficult housing circumstances so that everyone can celebrate Tet in new houses.
“With the consensus and determination of the Party Committee, the government, the supervision of the Fatherland Front Committee and the people at the implementation site, and the support of agencies, departments and branches, the “Union Shelter” projects were completed as quickly as possible and with quality. Seeing the union members, workers and people happy in their new houses, we are also truly happy. We hope that from these “Union Shelters”, union members, workers and people will have a stable life, and together enjoy the achievements of socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, so that every person and family can have Tet, so that no one is truly left behind” - Mr. Thai said.
