Developing union members - a strategic step
According to the report of the Provincial Federation of Labor (PFF), by the end of May 2025, the whole province had developed 17,696 new union members, reaching 47.8% of the annual plan assigned by the VGCL. Along with that, 46 grassroots trade union organizations have been established, including 42 trade unions and 4 grassroots trade unions, affirming the strong efforts of the Thanh Hoa trade union system in expanding the organization, improving the capacity to represent and care for workers.
Developing union members is not simply about increasing the number, but is a strategy to consolidate and protect the rights of workers in the context of many new challenges for the working class. Each new union member is a core that spreads the strength of the Trade Union organization at the workplace - Mr. Vo Manh Son - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor - emphasized.
According to Mr. Son, along with mobilizing workers to join the Trade Union, the work of establishing grassroots trade unions and trade unions in units without representative organizations has also been systematically implemented. Trade unions at all levels have proactively surveyed, approached businesses, directly disseminated the rights and obligations of union members, and at the same time consulted with authorities and peer-level experts, creating favorable conditions for the development of the organization.
Through the activities of trade unions, workers have begun to access welfare programs, receive guidance on labor law, and have a voice in collective bargaining. Some trade unions have also proposed increasing shift meals to over VND18,000, signing new collective labor agreements with many progressive provisions.
Quality is the highlight
Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor not only cares about quantity but also pays special attention to the quality of developing union members. Of the nearly 18,000 new union members, the majority are workers in the non-state sector - a young, sensitive and dynamic workforce. The training of trade union officials has also been widely organized, with 21 training courses for more than 15,000 officials in the past 6 months.
A noteworthy point is that the Provincial Federation of Labor has arranged and streamlined the organization in an effective and scientific direction. This achievement not only contributes to enhancing the position of the Trade Union organization in enterprises, but is also a "soft shield" to protect workers from market fluctuations and the risk of unhealthy labor relations. Each gathered union member will be a more proactive subject in negotiating and bargaining, contributing to building a harmonious and progressive working environment.
In the context of the National Assembly's recent approval of the Trade Union Law (amended), which places higher requirements for the representative role of the Trade Union organization, the results of developing union members in Thanh Hoa in the first 6 months of the year are a vivid testament to the spirit of innovation and action for workers.
From now until the end of the year, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor has determined to continue to promote the development of union members, establish grassroots unions, and improve the quality of activities. Emulation movements, welfare programs, periodic dialogues... will be organized synchronously so that workers can see the difference when they are union members. Strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to develop union members, establish grassroots unions, establish grassroots unions; complete and exceed the 2025 target.
Chairman Vo Manh Son said: "We are not chasing achievements. Each newly established Trade Union organization must operate effectively and be close to workers. That is the best way for the Trade Union to affirm its role in protecting workers and contributing to the sustainable development of the province".
