Not only overcoming the "double pressure" of their profession and family, they also become pioneers in creative labor, digital transformation and building a humane working environment in an industry considered a "territory" for men.
Overcoming "double pressure
Currently, the entire Construction industry has 34,876 female union members and employees, accounting for 26.8% of the total number of union members and employees. This figure not only reflects the scale of the female labor force in the industry but also shows the widespread presence of women in most fields: from state management, scientific research, human resource training to direct construction at construction sites and working in construction material factories.
The specific nature of the Construction industry makes female workers face more pressure than many other professions. At cement, brick, stone factories..., women often work in environments with a lot of smoke, dust, noise and potential hazards. At construction sites, many female engineers and technical staff have to stick to the scene, working outdoors in harsh weather conditions.
Many people have to follow projects in remote, isolated, border, and island areas for a long time. This means that they have to accept disadvantages in taking care of their families and children. For many female workers, the journey of dedication to the profession is also a journey to overcome the "double pressure" between agency work and the responsibility of being a wife and mother.
In that context, the role of the Trade Union organization is further affirmed. In the period 2020-2025, the Vietnam Construction Trade Union has implemented many solutions to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of female workers. Trade union levels coordinate with employers to supervise the implementation of maternity leave, health recovery, postpartum health recovery, regional minimum wage and many other specific policies.
Many units have negotiated and signed collective labor agreements with clauses that are more beneficial for female workers such as support for sending children to kindergarten and preschool; increasing breastfeeding time; organizing in-depth health check-ups for female workers.
The companionship of the trade union not only helps female union members feel secure in their work but also builds trust for them to continue to stick with the profession in stressful working conditions.
Spreading the movement "Good at state affairs, good at housework
If previously the movement "Good at state affairs, good at housework" was often associated with traditional emulation activities, now the movement has had a strong change, associated with the requirements of digital transformation, technology innovation and professional level improvement throughout the industry.
In the period 2020-2025, female union members and workers in the Construction industry have implemented more than 1,130 technical innovation initiatives and useful solutions that have been accepted and applied in practice. The initiatives bring value and profit of more than 30.7 billion VND.
These figures show that women in the Construction industry are not only responsible in their families but also an important creative force in businesses. From female design engineers, technical staff to direct production workers, they are gradually mastering modern technology, contributing to improving productivity, saving costs and ensuring labor safety.
Notably, in the past term, the proportion of women with university and postgraduate degrees in the industry increased by 15%. Trade unions at all levels have proactively supported funding and created time conditions for thousands of female union members to participate in training classes, professional development, postgraduate studies, and improve their political theory and professional skills.
In the context of the Construction industry promoting the application of digital technology, BIM models or business administration on digital platforms, the proactive learning of female workers has helped them not fall behind in the face of new requirements of the labor market.
Many typical advanced examples have become sources of inspiration for the entire industry's emulation movement. Ms. Le Thi Viet Ha of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is recognized for many contributions in the field of aviation security and technical solutions that bring high efficiency. Technology solutions such as ICUTE-NIA have contributed to optimizing the online check-in process, showing the ability to master digital transformation of female workers in the Construction industry.
At Vietnam Cement Corporation (Vicem), Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc (Vicem Hoang Thach Company) and many female technical staff have had initiatives to optimize production lines, contributing to maintaining a leading position in the creative labor movement.
To promptly encourage and motivate, in the past 5 years, the Vietnam Construction Trade Union has awarded 117 thematic Certificates of Merit "Good at state affairs, good at housework" to outstanding collectives and individuals throughout the industry.
Not only outstanding in professional work, female workers in the Construction industry are also the ones who keep the fire of family happiness. Every year, over 92% of female union members achieve the title "Good at state affairs, good at housework" at the grassroots level. The rate of families of workers, civil servants, and laborers achieving the title "Cultural Family" at their place of residence is always maintained at over 95%.
That is the result of persistent efforts from the women themselves - those who always try to balance work and family life, whether working in shifts or often away from home.
Humanitarian support for female workers
One of the outstanding highlights of the women's movement in the Construction industry in the period 2020-2025 is the activities of caring for life, towards the future generation.
Trade union levels have implemented many programs to support female union members in difficult circumstances and suffering from serious illnesses through visits, financial support for treatment, and gifts during holidays and Tet. These activities are not only of material value but also a great source of spiritual encouragement for workers.
In particular, the work of caring for union members' children has been widely deployed and created a large spillover effect throughout the industry. In the past 5 years, 314,665 children have received gifts on International Children's Day June 1st and Mid-Autumn Festival; 78,520 children with excellent academic achievements have been rewarded.
Gifts and scholarships, although not too large, are of practical significance, helping workers feel more secure in their work when their children receive attention from the trade union organization.
In parallel with that, the "Trade Union Shelter" program continues to become a support for many female union members in difficult housing circumstances. New houses being built and repaired not only help stabilize life but also open up hope for a better future for workers' families.
Through each specific activity, the Trade Union organization has affirmed its role as a reliable support for female workers - not only in work but also in everyday life.
