Vietnam becomes a bright spot on the global AI map
AI is a fundamental technology field of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, contributing significantly to creating breakthroughs in production capacity, enhancing national competitiveness, and promoting sustainable economic growth. AI, especially generative AI (GenAI), is creating unprecedented breakthroughs, opening up limitless possibilities for humanity.
According to Google research, the potential of AI in Vietnam is huge, with estimated economic benefits of up to 79.3 billion USD for businesses by 2030, if AI tools are widely applied. This figure is equivalent to nearly 12% of Vietnam's GDP by 2030.
The Vietnam IT Market Report 2024 - 2025 by recruitment platform TopDev shows that the technology industry in Vietnam needs at least 500,000 more workers to meet market demand by 2025. The market is still facing a serious shortage of human resources, especially in specialized positions.
According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), our country currently has about 700 people working in-depth in the field of AI, of which only 300 are experts - a very small number compared to the huge demand of Vietnamese businesses.
Google also stated that Vietnam is facing a shortage of human resources and AI experts - a major challenge that needs to be resolved soon.
In addition, AI technology startups in Vietnam face other challenges, such as lack of access to leading AI experts and consultants to evaluate and appraise AI products to suit market needs; lack of access to infrastructure, platforms and tools ready for businesses.
Be the “pioneer” of opportunity?
According to the 2024 Job Trends Index report with the theme of Bringing AI to Work, What Challenges Await, surveyed by Microsoft and LinkedIn on 31,000 people in 31 countries, including Vietnam, AI has impacted the way people work, lead and recruit.
In Vietnam, the report revealed three trends that leaders and professionals in Vietnam need to understand regarding the impact of AI on work and the labor market in the coming year: Employees want to use AI in the workplace - and will not wait for support from the company; AI sets new standards and breaks career boundaries for employees; Growth in the number of proficient AI users.
Some notable figures from this report include: 88% of knowledge workers in Vietnam are currently using Generative AI in the workplace (compared to 75% of knowledge workers globally); 76% of leaders in Vietnam said they would not hire people without AI skills (compared to 66% of global leaders); 78% of leaders in Vietnam also admitted that they would prefer to hire less experienced candidates with AI skills over experienced candidates who lack these skills.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Thanh Nguyen - CEO & Happiness Inspiration, Anphabe Joint Stock Company - said that according to Anphabe's survey, there are 2 major paradoxes in applying AI.
Firstly, working people have a high demand for AI and see the outstanding potential of this technology in their work, but lack technology-related skills. According to a survey by Anphabe, more than 70% of working people rate technology skills as the most important factor, but their capacity is not commensurate.
Second, although AI brings impressive support in work performance, the rate of businesses investing in AI applications in the enterprise is still low, not commensurate with the potential that this technology can bring.
