Hanoi - In response to concerns about the phenomenon of " spraying medicine the previous day and selling the next day", the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee spoke about this issue.

On the morning of July 9, continuing the 25th session, the Hanoi People's Council held a question-and-answer session on issues of concern to voters and delegates. The issue of food hygiene and safety received many questions from delegates.

Before questioning this group of issues, the Hanoi People's Council issued a video reporting the food safety situation in the city.

Delegate Nguyen Quang Thang (Deputy Delegate No. 9) asked, in the report, it was shown that there was still a situation where vegetable growers used pesticides the night before, but the next morning they harvested and sold vegetables.

The delegate suggested that the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment say that food sources such as vegetables and fruits are controlled, ensuring food safety accounts for what percentage of the total daily consumption of the people of the capital.

Regarding the suspicion of people spraying pesticides the previous night but harvesting them for consumption the next morning, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai - Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment said that there is still a situation where some households grow spontaneous vegetables to self-sufficiently supply, then sell them at the market.

This group of products poses a potential risk of food safety if not strictly controlled.

"In the near future, Hanoi will continue to plan safe vegetable production areas, build a growing chain, step up inspection posts, and combine support policies and strong sanctions" - Mr. Dai said.

Participating in answering questions, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that food safety is a very broad, difficult, and complex field, requiring the participation of the entire political system and the participation of the people.

With a population of over 10 million people, this is a big challenge for the capital.

The Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized that in recent times, the city's food safety work has achieved some positive results.

Through inspections, the phenomenon of " Dual-ings, two-cages pigs" basically no longer exists. This is a good sign.

However, the leader of the Hanoi People's Committee admitted that according to the reflection, there is still a phenomenon of secretly spraying pesticides at night, then harvesting them for sale the next morning. The city will continue to strengthen management of this issue.
