On the X platform, Ming-Chi Kuo analyst said that Apple may break the 999 USD mark for the first time to launch a cheaper MacBook model. Apple is expected to start producing a new MacBook model in late 2025 or early 2026.
Notably, this device will use the A18 Pro chip - the type of chip currently equipped on the iPhone 16 Pro instead of the M-series chip currently available on all Macs using Apple Silicon.
This low-cost MacBook model is said to still have a 13-inch screen size like the MacBook Air and may have additional color options such as silver, pink and gold.
Although the specific price is not yet clear, Apple is targeting production of 5 to 7 million units for 2026, a large number showing that the company is targeting the popular segment and expects high sales thanks to competitive prices.
The biggest question is still how much lower will Apple price the MacBook Air so that users can accept performance exchange? If it is as predicted, this will be the first time Apple has entered the laptop segment under 999 USD - a "new land" for both the company and users.
