The US technology giant said it will work with partners to launch a more than 75,000m2 server manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas to produce servers for Apple Intelligence, AI personal assistants for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
The new plant, expected to start operating in 2026, will be part of a major investment plan that Apple is committed to in the next 4 years. In addition to the new facility in Texas, Apple said it also plans to recruit about 20,000 new employees across the US.
Apple said most of the new employees will focus on research and development, silicon engineering, software development, AI and machine learning.
We are optimistic about the innovative future of the United States and excited to continue long-term investment in the United States with a commitment of $500 billion for the future of the country, said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
The move comes after Apple's CEO met with US President Donald Trump last week.
The iPhone maker faces pressure from the Donald Trump administration to choose a place to manufacture the product. Apple assembles most of its products in China.
Apple said its $500 billion investment plan will include partnerships with suppliers across the US and content production for Apple TV+ device streaming services in 20 US states, as well as hiring new employees and spending on research and development.
Apple said it is still one of the largest taxpayers in the US, having paid more than $75 billion over the past 5 years, including $19 billion in 2024 alone.
Apple will increase the Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5.5 billion to $10 billion, establish a new manufacturing academy in Michigan and increase investment in research and development in the US to support new areas such as advanced silicon manufacturing.
